Going to cruise to a disappointing 3rd place finish this year.

champions don't lose to a bottom feeding squad, at home, with the fate of the championship in the balance...

as far as Klopp, bye... guess he was already making retirement plans, considering our recent string of performances....

Championship winning teams don’t have a leaky defense that gets your team losing 1-0 every single game

Klopp has nothing to do with our inability to finish worth a shite the last 2 weekends.

I’ll let you blame the Atalanta thrashing on him though

Just saying. Grass ain’t always greener. Odds are pretty high next season we will be missing Klopp desperately

It’s been longer than that.
They just cant put the ball in the back of the net for whatever reason.

At a certain point you have to say, those attackers just aren’t good enough. It’s one thing to put a ball on target but if you consistently waste great chances, it’s not wasteful, it’s just not talented enough.

Nunez with 119 shots and only 11 goals in the league. This is two seasons of not consistently finishing off chances. He’s not good enough. Diaz is not good enough, and Salah is washed.

Has Salah beaten a defender one on one in hold up play a single time this season?

Salah was great the first half of the season. He’s currently 2nd in the league in goals+assists and tied for 3rd in goals. He hasn’t been the same since his injury at AFCON and that’s been a huge issue for our recent struggles

Also, Connor Bradley was not bad by any means but so many times over the years when we couldn’t find the back of the net, Trent would provide a game changing cross or pass that would lead to a goal. We have missed that threat immensely

Darwin and Diaz are both good enough to be regulars in a starting 11 but they’ve been playing in basically every game and Jota’s injury + Gakpo not being great hasn’t given us any help in terms of depth options

Endo also hasn’t been great at all since returning from his injury and Szobo was immense the first half of the season and hasn’t been nearly at that level the 2nd half

The most concerning thing to me has been the defense. And it doesn’t make sense because VVD has had a great season and Konate is definitely good enough to start next to him. You could point to Klopp’s tactics but just a few years ago when we were making CL finals and winning the league our defense was extremely dependable, so what has changed?

It’ll be very interesting to see who the new manager wants to keep.

This is so fricking depressing. If we could have beat Crystal fricking palace at home we’d be in the drivers seat

Been going on for like 4 years now. They just randomly switch off and forget how to mark defenders. Same story, different season.

Kinda odd to consider, but we were better both defensively *and* scoring before Joel Matip got hurt.

Now I know that correlation =/= causation, but interesting to ponder nonetheless. Matip making a bone-headed defensive error was rare. He was also good at moving the ball upfield and making good forward passes to the midfield and forwards. Those assets were replaced with blunders and back-passes after he was injured.

Somebody asked Virgil who were the most talented 3 players in the squad. He said Mo, Ali, and Matip. I know that's his partner, but still. Interesting take.

Why does nobody talk about Xavi as a potential coach? He’s done pretty damn well at Barca considering the shite show that club has been the fast few years, including winning the league and could have them in the CL semis later today

They have been stout defensively under him and he has continued to say that he is not returning to Barca even with this CL run they’re on.

Salah and Szobo have hamstring injuries. Rarely does a player come back from a hamstring injury during the season and regain their form. They’re never the same until the next season.

We might score 4 today but with the way we defend as a unit we’d still concede a few.

As far as talking you into it here’s the last time we played @ Atalanta so it’s definitely possible. It will probably be a little louder there this evening.

Yeah it sucks but we only have ourselves to blame

Multiple guys have been pretty bad since coming back from injury. Jones has been awful

Szobo and Salah were never the same after their hamstring injuries, which as mentioned a few posts up take a long time to fully heal. Ideally they get the entire summer to get 100% but I'm guessing Szobo is in Euro's

It was an incredible midfield revamp we did last summer but we clearly need a little more depth
