Former LSU defensive back Maurice Hampton has made his way back to the SEC and has committed to Vanderbilt,

Hampton, a former 2019 four-star safety from Memphis, Tenn., played in 13 games during LSU's national championship run in 2019 and played eight games with five starts as a sophomore in 2020.

On the baseball diamond, an early injury in 2019 kept Hampton out of the lineup during a season that was ultimately canceled due to Covid-19. He played in five games in 2021 as a reserve outfielder.

He ended up transferring to Samford to play baseball and then to Memphis to play football. Now he is headed to Nashville and will play against LSU at Tiger Stadium on Nov. 23.

When Maurice Hampton leveled Jalen Hurts early on in the college football playoffs, it changed the whole complexion of that game

This guy would have been a high draft pick if he'd a hung around here instead. I thought he went to TCU to be closer to home.

Didn't he have lingering injury issues that led to him initially giving up football? Always thought he could've been a good safety for us if healthy.

Maybe he will learn a lesson against job hopping that will help him in the future.

No problem at all with his decisions. He should dominate on Vanderbilt football team and they have a very legit baseball team as well. Aside from atheletics, he can get a damn strong degree. He should be able to find a route to success.

I think he has NFL potential unless something has drastically changed since his freshman year at LSU.
