I hear ya and maybe it’s just semantics, but saying it’s “difficult” to track at home might lead some new people to throw away the idea. The application is easy, but it takes more time than not doing it.

However, doing it will reward the people who are coming to the health and fitness board looking for solutions to losing weight. Calories are all that matters when it comes to losing weight. A caloric deficit….so track your calories if you are looking to lose weight.

Get a food scale off Amazon and get a tracker app like myfitnesspal. You can store any meal you make and save it. So you have to calculate each thing only once. Anything out of a package you just scan.

This is my 3rd week of intermittent fasting and lifting weights. I'm down 3lbs but feel even skinnier, probably due to lifting weights maybe my weight didn't drop as much.

Muscle is much denser than fat. So it's likely you may maintain a similar weight for a while yet still lose fat and look skinnier.

Reducing carb intake is best for most people wanting to lose weight. It pairs great with IF and requires no app tracking. Not saying full keto is necessary. Just high fat and protein, and reduce carbs and your hunger pains will go away and fat will melt off.

My experience has been that even when not doing full blown Keto, proteins and even fats with minimal carbs just digests much easier and better.

Been doing the 16:8 since January 1. Also stopped drinking. Trying to limit my calories to around 2000 per day, although on the weekends I tend to over a bit.

Down 14 pounds. I could do this indefinitely. (The drinking part, probably not.)

Tough to keep calories low with alcohol though.

Just don’t eat breakfast and your weight will stay down. Pretty simple. Eat what you want

I disagree about the breakfest thing.

I ate a cup of ground beef today for lunch. Trying to get into an IF. Type of regime.

Trying to cut my food down to Real basic. Eggs, Beef, Chicken. Minimal prep.

I have fasted regularly for over 3 years. Changed my life. Went from 230 to 195 and I’ve been there ever since. No joint stiffness anymore and all my vitals are back within normal healthy range. BP, A1C, blood sugar, cholesterol, all of it

This documentary fundamental changed how I live my life

BBC Documentary on fasting

ETA: I also had plantar fasciitis when I started this thing. Completely went away.

A form of 5/2. although I don’t do any restricted calories on Monday or Thursday, I just go without any food. Only coffee/water.

On occasion I do an extended day fast where I go 3–5 days. Resets the immune system, puts the body into a state of autophagy.

Interestingly enough, it cured my gluten sensitivity. I eat whatever the hell I wanna eat.

ETA- If you’re interested in it, check that documentary out. It is what sold me. Very well done, logically sound, historically relevant. I’ve sent it to dozens of people.

Something I have always wondered is if a 24 hour fast is just that - 24 hours. I have gone from Sunday dinner to Monday dinner as a course in the past and it is technically a one day fast. But it seems like it should be Sunday night to Tuesday morning.

That’s awesome OP. I’m 47 and have used IF to drop about 30lbs since September.
I do an 18/6. High protein. With about a 500cal deficit. Love it.

I like to workout fasted also. I usually try and get some kind of workout in at lunch time before breaking 16/18 hr fast.

I’m thinking of trying to get to 20/4, eating window 4pm-8pm. Maybe OMAD some days

so just to clear some things up

IF is great and i have been using it for years but some people get very anxious on it. so watch that. if you do start getting anxious, put breakfast back in.

IF is just a strategy to control calories. In the end all that matters is calorie and protein intake. IF works because its hard to eat that many calories in that short amount of time.

16:8 is what works for most people, personally i prefer about 4-5 hour eating window

when doing IF, priotize protein and keep the meals simple.

The talk about weighing lasgana and foods like that are why those types of meals should be very far and few between. Thiings like rice and gravy, most cajun dishs, most italian dishes should be once a week meals at most.

i suggest feeling 1/2 a plate full of veggies, 1/4 plate with protein and then using the other 1/4 for either fruit, starch or fats

also if you are not lifitng weights or even if you are and arent using a progressive overload system to get stronger....you are leaving things that will make you feel way better on the table.

Good for you.
Im on board here. With the IF Nation. I use to listen to a lot of Dr. Bergs Videos on Youtube and he makes a lot of great points on how fasting can bring you to better health.

Believe it or not. When I was in my prime. I used this and lost a considerable amount of weight. Almost down to a 36-34 inch waist and got down to 215-225. Im trying again.

Something happened, triggered a relapse and I gave up. Back to dating fat chicks, single mothers and binge eating.

Today Im on hour 62 of a 72 Hour Fast and plan on starting again with a 16-8 Schedule. With a 72 Hr fast at the beginning of each month. Trying to regain some of my prime I lost 10 years ago.

I didn't want to start an entire new thread so hopefully someone with experience can answer this. I have been intermittent fasting for a couple of years now. I use the 16-8 window basically skipping breakfast and not eating after 8 pm. I recently started working out in the morning at 5 am (have always worked out after work). Am I jeopardizing my health/gains by not having a meal until noon after doing pretty taxing HIIT, cardio, and weights? Current goal is to lose about 8 lbs and maintain strength. Current routine HIIT/Crossfit type workout 3 days a week and weights/40 minutes on open stride (elliptical style machine) 2-3 days a week.

Nah. As long as your total caloric intake is at a healthy spot then you are good. Timing doesn't matter.

I work out at 5:00am and do not eat anything until about 9:30-10:00pm. And I am doing just fine.
