You could tell Varney was a pretty intelligent and well-rounded guy by his ad-libs and side stuff he would do like the Oftomon sequence in Scared Stupid. Really was just a bizarre small history lesson. I literally learned who the Ottomans were and that Botswana was a real place from this film.

Finally got my 7 year old to watch it this weekend. Favorite lines were of course “miak” and “how about a bumper sandwich, booger lips”
This is perhaps a little heavy for the Movie/TV board, but this movie brings back wonderful memories for me. I had a step-daughter who was autistic, and could quite this movie word for word. I had married her mother when she was four, and operating on about a two year old level, and helped get her to a neurologist who encouraged us to continue to let her watch movies to develop her speech patterns. She used to love to eat uncooked poptarts and drink milk, and one day when I went to wipe her mouth I said she had “booger lips” - she thought it was the best thing ever.
Things didn’t work out with her mother and I went I eventually got past, but it was pretty difficult to lose a child you raised for six years. This brought back a little sadness for me, but I realize it was because of a good memory.
