Got quoted 11k and 13k for two different types of units. Is this reasonable or should I get another quote? 2 story dual system

Is 3.5 ton too big for 1800 sf? Especially a 2 story home?

That’s not even in the ballpark. They’re ripping you off. The unit costs about $1800 just for the condenser. If you need the coil and furnace you’re looking at about $3,300. And you can pay someone $1,200 to install the whole system. Install just the condenser about $600. Don’t get ripped off. I’m in the real estate business and I buy my own equipment so find somewhere to buy it yourself. The scumbags who quoted you that should be ashamed of themselves. If you can’t find somewhere to buy it, I’ll help you out.

I also only pay $1,500-$1,700 in labor for every new roof and buy my own materials. Saves me about 40%.

I see some HVAC professionals in here are downvoting me. those are the scumbags who want you to think it costs $11,000 for a new 3.5 ton system.

If you’re in the BR area, I’d say that’s a little high. I’ve got 2300 sq ft and just had a new 3 stage, 4 ton, 16 seer unit installed for just under $10k, and even then I felt it was a little high considering the unit is probably around $4k.

I had a guy quote $10k many years ago for 5-ton, then I found one that would do it for 8k, and suddenly the first guy’s price dropped to $8k. There’s a lot of wiggle room so get enough quotes to not be screwed.

These seem like crazy numbers to me. I paid $3500 for a 2.5 ton unit 2-3 years ago, installed.

It was family in the business, but not “close family”. Guy is the brother of my brother’s wife… my SIL’s brother.

Sounds like he really gave me a great deal, but surely you can do much better.

I paid 5850 for a 5 ton unit in 2015.

Yeah, I know. 9 years ago. But damn you inflation.

I am in CT and replaced two AC units and air handlers last year. Each were $7500. I think they were either 2 or 2.5 tons

Just the unit, or are they doing new duct work, too?

This seems like what I paid for a 4 ton last year, but they litteraly just installed the new unit

$14,300 for a 3 ton and a 3.5 ton (2) lennox systems in May 22.

I would think anything over 9k is too much.

we just paid $12k for a 4 ton trane complete system inside and out for 1600 sq ft

just whatever you get, DO NOT GET ANYTHING WITH A VARIABLE SPEED FAN.

thats why we replaced our 15 yr old system. the price for the replacement fan motor was $1900 plus labor

if you get outside the warranty, the fan motor replacement costs more than the whole htr unit did when it was new
