Why was this square area left out of St. George? I am not familiar enough with Baton Rouge. Is there something wrong with this area? What is currently there?

Businesses and establishments that the city of Baton Rouge doesn’t want to lose. Probably a deal BR and St. George made, if St. George was to ever move forward.

This is where Top Golf, Sam’s, Wal-Mart, shopping centers, restaurants, and hotels are at.

Looks like the Mall of LA (interior, not anchor stores) and that was grabbed between the failed first petition and the second petition.

And that was on top of BR already having fricky boundaries in that area, as that chunk of Essen and Bluebonnet started getting developed around the same time they stopped incorporating residential areas.

BR annexed a canal to take in Siegen Village and Top Golf, etc.

Before the second petition was submitted, the mayor went crazy with annexations. She said the Mall would lose their CATS bus stop if it was in St G.

Remember when there was a EBRSO mobile tower in the lot? And fairly blanketed sheriff details there? Now it's BRPD territory. And there's times you won't see a single police unit there.

And then used Siegen Village to snag The Advocate on the other side of the interstate. (And good riddance- we didn't want it anyway).

Absolutely not. It was frickery by the city. They tried annexing a railroad and then the canal. They wanted to grab sales tax bases and no other area that they would actually have to provide service to.

That’s where we are going to relocate all of the non-whites that currently reside within the current StG boundary.

The below annexation of mostly businesses by Baton Rouge happened between the 2014 proposal when a judge threw out just enough signatures to not put it to a vote and the proposal that was approved by voters.

Minus what BR annexed and areas with low signature support back during the 2014 attempt the below proposal was then made which voters approved. The red section in first pic hadn’t officially become part of Baton Rouge at the time of successful proposal but was in progress.

I figured the mall would be ok with that...
