why sell a 10k truck when you can sell a 75k one and block all international competition that could

It's a combination of emissions and safety standards and the manufacturers not wanting to dilute sales on their US specific models like the 4Runner or Taco.

You can get a used street legal K truck (jap truck) for about $5,000. I'm seriously considering getting one for around the house.

Chickens... the answer is chickens... the US wanted Europe to buy more chickens and so we put a moratorium on light utility vehicles to protect our unions... cuz that makes sense

well that didnt work, but we never stopped the moratorium

I wish I was joking... google chicken tax 1964

When the auto executives go to Washington to glad hand and grease palms, do you think they're gonna push for the margins they'll make on a 15K Hilux, or a 115K F-250 Platinum?

If any of you every drove one of those things in US conditions, the bitching would be epic -

Waaaaahhhhh, no power, can't keep up with traffic waaaaahhhh

Waaaaahhhh, muh AC, waaaahhhhhh

Wahhhhhh, I got runover by a giant Corolla an' kilt, suuuuueeee Toyota waaaahhhh

Waaaaahhh, It's so noisy inside Ima go deef, Ima sue somebody, waaaaahhhhh

If you really want this exact level of functionality with similar performance, go buy a John Deere Gator. As for the chicken tax, Toyota and Nissan have decades of experience in evading it. If they thought more than 10 of you losers would buy one and they could limp it past emissions and crash, they'd sell them here.

Downvote away.

Look at the places you see those driving around...third world countries
I'm sure they're 3rd world countries because they drive Hiluxs instead Tacomas and 4Runners. It couldn't be any other reason.

It should be state by state choice then. Louisiana is pretty much a 3rd world country.

Just buy a single cab truck from the 80s and restore it. I got a $1500 Jeep Comanche and I'm getting close to being finished restoring and modernizing it. I already have $1000 in it. I plan on putting another $1000-$1500 into it. I do all of the work in my spare time on the weekends. I buy all of my parts on eBay and Rockauto. I taught myself how to weld. After I'm done the truck will be worth $12k-$15k. I'll prob never get rid of it.
