Both jobs will shred the player's knees.

Both have rock-like projectiles flying at them at 100mph.

One is on skates

One has a much more difficult stance and less protection/padding and more susceptible to injury.

One has to play offense as well and in on almost every play

If one gets hot in the playoffs, he can basically win a championship for a team by shutting off the opposing team's offense.

If the ball/puck gets past either of them, it's bad news.

Goalie IMO

But having a catcher worth a shite offensively is such a big advantage in baseball from a team building aspect

Goalie.

The pitcher isn't trying to make you miss the ball, and the action in baseball starts and stops.

100% goalie and it's not close.

This right here clinches it for the goalie.

Catcher may be the only position that’s harder in college than the pros when you think about it

Hockey players are the best overall athletes out there. It’s not close, especially mental and physical aspects of the sport.

Goalie.

Catcher is facing a pitch coming from the same direction every time and has a pretty good idea where it's going each time.

Goalie by far.

Catcher is a very important position but goalie has to deal with a lot while on skates.

Job wise? I'd rather work 82 games than 162

I've been watching playoff hockey and was just thinking how insane being a goalie is. They're on constant edge for the entire game, the longest break between attacks is what, 30 seconds? Giant men are flying around and the puck is constantly vanishing and then it's rifled at them traveling 80-100 mph from sometimes feet away.

Catcher.

A goalies pads take up 80% of the goal.

Just have to stand there

Catcher in the mlb has to call a game etc

While I respect any goalie in the NHL (and they have some of the stuff to deal with below in their own game), I gotta go with a MLB catcher.

You have to crouch for at least half of a 3 hour game.
You have to know all the opposing hitters.

You have to know your starter really well and every bullpen pitcher very well. You really have to be encouraging to the pitcher even when he's got his head up his arse.

You have to be aware of each situation, outs, count, runners on base, whose on the bases.

You have to know the umpires very well.

You also have to hit major league pitching at least 3 to 4 times a game and all that goes with that. So, you have to know the opposing pitcher, counts, situations, etc.

At least no one expects you to run very well.

And a whole shite-ton more, I'm sure.

Being a catcher looks absolutely brutal, but I've never seen a catcher's throat get sliced open in the middle of a game.

NFL cornerback because you’re basically playing/moving backwards against world class athletes

At least the goalie can stand, even if on skates.

I never understood how catchers could shite-squat for 9 innings and catch heaters and then have to pop up to throw out runners.

Both have to always be on....alert.

Catchers use to stand in old thyme days....but baseball wanted to give umps a better look....some umps would stand 10 feet back.

I've rarely, if ever, heard of a catcher becoming a basket case and just unable to play the position after being elite. I've seen goalies become basket cases, get into their own heads, and unable to effectively play the position. When that happens to a goalie, it's really hard to come back and be a NHL-level goalie.

I've never been a goalie but I have been in catchers gear in July for 9 innings.. you are a puddle after that

But goalie still but I would say it's much closer when it is hot and you are playing against a team with speed in the bases.

Both are very difficult but I would give the edge to MLB catcher. Having to be able to make the throws to each base and making the calls for pitches adds a different element to their job. It’s harder to stop a puck than catch the ball, but they don’t have to be offensive players also.
