One of the best character driven writing ever. Such a great premise.

The mysteries were addicting and the internet was abuzz with trying to decipher it all.

It was an amazing time to be alive. Similar to the early seasons of Game of Thrones.

And just like GoT, Lost turned out to be a million mysteries with no real answers, plot hooks and plot holes and promises of answers to questions by people who had no fricking clue what the answers were.

In the end, the writers played every sympathy card and tugged at every heart string as hard as they could, in the hopes that the sheer tidal wave of emotion would flood people's brains with serotonin and make them forget about all those pesky plot holes and unanswered questions.

And it worked for some. But others, that had time to get over the image of Jack lying there staring at the sky as the faithful yellow lab lay down beside him, started to remember all those things that didn't add up. All those promises of answers to questions, still unanswered.

I am one of those people. So frick Lost.

And frick GoT

And frick Battlestar Gallactica.

All three played the same bullshite game, and it sucked.

After a recent re-watch, and having seen this basic sentiment in the past, can you describe what exactly wasn't answered that has driven you to hate the show?

What a horrendous take. All the big questions that mattered to the show were answered. Sure there were some things not directly answered, but so what? The miniscule insignificant things left untied are irrelevant. The LOST finale was damn near perfect and I couldn't have been happier with the ending.

Shows like Dexter deserve scorn for their late seasons (although I understand there were reasons behind that going to shite) bc they were utter garbage and basically an insult to viewers. That's not the case with lost.

I'm going through a Lost rewatch now.

This is my 3rd time in about 8 years I guess and my girlfriend's first time.

She agrees with me that there may be no show better a cliffhangers than Lost is.

We'll talk about what it must've been like to watch this show when it first came out. It's easy to get attached to all these characters because of how well-built and in-depth they are even through a binge. I can't imagine what it was like when there was a character death after watching the show for years as it was debuting.

ETA: Someone should do there own thread to debate which character had the most tragic/roughest backstory before they got on the plane.

I started to type up my list, and admittedly it's been since it aired live that I watched is so I was struggling to be specific.

I found this youtube video that rips through a ton of them.

LINK

It's a bit over the top but it shows the sheer number of "mysteries" that were just written in as mind fricks with no real end game that wraps them all up.

I know that in real life not all questions get answered, but the main theme of the show was that "answers to questions will be revealed next week on Lost!". It was their schtick and they just kept on playing it over and over.

Also, my hate is probably compounded by BSG and GoT doing the same damn thing. Oh, and I'll add Alias to the list as well.

One of the reasons I have such great respect for Vince Gilligan is that he actually delivers on an end to his story arcs.

JJ Abrams has become famous for starting awesome mystery/drama/action stories, then bailing on them mid-stream, leaving the remaining writers to make shite up as they go with no clue how it was supposed to end.

For those that maybe didn’t know... or if you were apart of the DarkUFO blog back in the mid 2000’s week to week , they would do extensive breakdowns.. anyway.. the guy who ran that was Robby Soave...

If you watch Tucker Carlson, he randomly comes on as a conservative columnist.. Robby is a good guy.. we’ve communicated some over the years... I’m glad he found his footing as a reporter

It's too long / too many episodes.

The Lost threads on this board were massive.

they were, and they were awesome. As a point of comparison we always have a season long big brother thread. Last year's season long thread for BB21 went 145 pages.

The episode thread for just the LOST finale (1 episode) was 107 pages.

Those threads were nuts.

Hell, I remember the fuss about it on the internet. I remember a lot of people being disappointed by the ending. But, I didn’t watch it til years later on Netflix I think. Just seemed like people were always bitching about mysteries and theories.

The problem with older shows is the amount of episodes is a bitch to get through. I’ve been trying to finish The X Files for years and just finally got to the new seasons.

I worked in the basement of the LSU library when LOST was on air and I used to spend most of my time at work reading that blog and other LOST theories. Great times. Also Locke is the GOAT.

It went beyond that, but we decided to reset the thread before 108 hit and started another thread.

I was in high school and college when Lost was airing. An ABC drama series did not rank high on my to-do list at that time.

I remember watching the premiere when it first aired. We had just moved up here from College, and some family was over helping us unpack some things and eating dinner. We had it on in the background. I think we tried to watch it on DVR a few days later, but never really got into it. I was just starting a job, traveling a good bit, and didn't have much time on the weekends because I was busting about 60-70 hours a week working. A couple of years later, we binged the first two seasons and started S3 when it aired. One of those great shows where you can't wait until the next week. I followed some of the internet theories and posts on a few different boards, but the wife did not. We both really enjoyed it, and should probably do a rewatch at some point. It has been long enough that all of the little details will probably seem new.

I'm sure this is true, but the first time I watched it was when it was on Netflix and all I could think was "I can barely wait for the countdown for the next episode to start... how the heck did people wait weeks/months?"

We used to watch every week with the same group of friends and, at the end of each episode, there was a loud collective, "DAMMIT! It's over already?!?!?", moment as everyone realized we'd have to wait a week to see the resolution to the latest cliffhanger. Good times...

I have watched LOST when it originally aired.
I then watched it again a year later.
Y'all have me wanting to watch another round of it.

Yeah I caught it in its entirety during the original run. First show I've watched from start to finish in real time. It was such an amazing show. Incredible character development and a wonderful soundtrack. Reminds me of being young.
