The fact that the recipe posted has no lard tells me it's not even close.

If you read the reviews, most say the biscuits are decent enough but not popeyes.

freeze butter, chop it into little cubes, mix it in with bisquit dough, freeze, place on pan, cook.

Popeye's puts something called "biscuit dressing" over the tops of the just cooked biscuits. I think it has butter and chicken flavors in it and that's probably what makes the taste a little different.

Holy crap! Where can I score some biscuit dressing?
Also, thanks a lot. Mow I have to go to Popeyes. I'm hungry and fat.

I wanna say they used something like cream cheese or something. I was talking about this with someone the other night at a party but now I cant remember cause of the buzz factor.

I would try melted butter with some chicken base somehow incorporated into it. Maybe add a small amount of water. I think this is why the biscuits taste pretty salty.
I think this is also why they have something of a yellow color.

The "dressing" sounds like it would be just margarine
