I have not been in the golf loop the last year or so, but last thing I read was that some real estate agent bought it. Somebody tell me if this guy is crazy or just misremembered.

Not Gordon.
Callicut.
And he didn’t so much ‘buy’ it as make a deal with Dotson to ‘lease’ it until he could drum up enough of other people’s money to buy it.
Which he never did.
Which is why it’ll be back in Dotsons name soon.

Bluffs is dead
Rumor the owner of false river CC plans to make it 18. Hopefully that happens

Whatever was going to happen is no longer happening. Something fell through. That’s all I got.

The HOA shot it down. Didn’t want billboards lining the fairways

Callicott. He was a sorta room mate of mine when we were in school. Played a ton of golf together. I caddied for him in a qualifier once. To this day, he had the purest iron contact I have ever seen.

Well that’s cool I guess but all I hope is that he can get the bluffs back rocking. Sounds like he almost certainly cannot.

I know his dad, but even he doesn't know what's going on with The Bluffs. I don't believe they are on the best of terms though.

It's a goner . At this point it's a rebuild. The Bluffs was an awesome layout . It needed to be a resort destination with a sugar daddy and that never happened . I believe the guy who bought it did not realize how much it was going to take and the BS that came along with the purchase .

I cannot imagine even if his original plans made sense at that time, make sense now with inflation and interest rates.

Mr. Jim is talking about it, doubt it happens

I heard he already bought the adjoining property for the expansion? This was from a guy that lives right down the street from FRCC.

I’ll likely join if this happens
Being only 9 holes it’s hard to justify playing that over and over an over. 18 changes things

I could see three options that would work, but none of them are likely.
Private club in a suburb of BR. I don't know that BR is going to grow towards St Francisville more than it already has. If somehow it had a boom and people fled there like they've fled to Livingston and Ascension, maybe. But Idk that expansion that direction is on the horizon. So it opening as a private club for locals isn't likely.
Second is if someone like the Keiser's bought it and built more golf courses to make it a destination for golf. Kind of like what is going on with World Woods in Fla. I don't think you'd ever have the draw that Bandon has with the scenery or the sandy soil that Nebraska has. But it could be a Streamsong light. For guys who want to have a getaway but don't want to spend thousands of dollars.
The final option would be the members at U Club buying it for a second course. They could probably have the membership to justify two courses but those two courses are like an hour apart. I don't know if the members would even want a second course but a second course an hour away obviously isn't ideal. At one point, The Bluffs kind of had a deal with Carter Plantation where you could join both and that was interesting bc BR guys could travel an hour either direction for golf, but couldn't play close to home. Having UC as an option would fix that.
Outside of that, I'm not sure The Bluffs ever comes back.

I don't understand why The Bluffs can't be the Louisiana version of Mossy Oak/Old Waverly or Dancing Rabbit in Mississippi. Make it a stay and play type place. Build some zipline, adventure type stuff for families and make a destination with cottages and and inn that's also available to the locals.

Bottom line is the course needs to be totally blown up and have a complete renovation. It’s way past the point of just mowing the grass down and reopen. It needs all new infrastructure, drainage, irrigation, new greens etc. In todays economy it’s at least 8-10 million. Awesome piece of property, maybe one day!

Should've known it didn't have a chance when it was purchased by a real estate agent.
