Over half of the people in my neighborhood have had there roof replaced due to the big hailstorm that came through last summer. So, I called a roofer to come out and assess the damage. He gives it a quick lookover and says you definitely have hail damage. I make a claim with progressive and they send an adjuster out. He writes everything up stating hail and gutter damage. Total roof repair. I get a call about a week later that someone is not satisfied with the first adjusters assessment. So another adjuster is coming. These two balloon knots from Hancock came out and looked over the roof stating there is nothing was wrong with the roof and it looked great to them. What recourse do I have

Request a re-inspection and have your roofing contractor there when they get there and have them do the inspection together.

If there is actual hail damage and this doesn't do the trick then hire a public adjuster.

tell them you would rather not involve lawyers unless it becomes necessary but the adjusters that were sent out were were incompetent or simply not qualified to inspect roofs

get 2 more estimates and contact a lawyer if need be

they often play these games hoping you give up but the magic lawyer word always makes them have a change of heart

LoL. They have rooms full of lawyers and love to hear that. That is NOT what you want to do. The adjustor will kick this to Legal and move on in about two seconds. Who has more time and money to fight it out in court? You or the insurance company.

Keep this in the adjustors area of responsibility because once he forwards the file you are done. The poster who advised you to request another meeting and to have your guy there is on point. I had my roof guy present and the adjustor didn't even want to get on the roof. Sent my roof guy up with the insurance companies camera and said "get me five pics of hail damage" and then went back and wrote me up for a new roof.

They have lawyers coming in their office daily with goodies or taking them places trying to get business like claims with insureds "hiring" lawyers. Easy way for a claim to get off an adjusters desk, kick it to legal

I make a claim with progressive

First mistake

Progressive needs to stick to auto insurance. They are great for auto insurance. They recently took on all of ASI's homeowners insurance business via a buyout and so they're new to the arena of homeowners insurance and its associated underwriting/claims whereas before they were simply an agency selling ASI homeowners insurance. Now they actually own all of that business and it's going to take them a long time to get great at homeowners insurance. It's just the way it is.

I would suggest, once you get a re inspection done WITH your roofer, to replace your roof then replace homeowners insurance companies. You need a State Farm or USAA for homeowners insurance coverage. 95% of the time you won't have this type of issue with them and if you do, it will be cleared up quickly with a phone call or two.

We had State Farm but moved to Amica when we switched houses. I wanted to stay with State Farm since one of our family friends is an agent, but living in Louisiana there is a 5% deductible for named storm events which is a little steep

May want to check with them again. I’m in Ascension Parish and State Farm recently lowered their hurricane deductible back down to 2% again.

If you can qualify for them, USAA offers 1% and they’re cheaper than State Farm. I’m too big a pussy to have been in the military but thankfully my wife’s dad wasn’t so we qualify for USAA through him. 100% confident I’ll never be screwed by them.

Any shingle granules to be found in your gutter system? Got any spare shingles?

When I had this same thing (Hail damage) a few years ago, my roofer suggested that I call him and get him there with the adjuster. He told me that many insurance companies will try what happened to you because a lot of people won't fight it.

This is why they started naming winter storms a few years ago, to jack up deductibles.

Winter storms do not fall under the named storm deductble. The weather channel names winter storms. They have no implication on your deductible. Named Storms as far as your insurance is concerned is dictated by the National Weather Service or National Hurricane Center

Also, some people have a Hurricane deductible in which a winter storm would clearly not fall under and some people have a wind/hail deductible in which all storms would fall under

Nah, that was The Weather Channel trying to seem more important than they really are.
