My dad is getting some prices for work to be done on his yard, and turf removal, grading, add sand/soil and 14 pallets of centipede sod installed and first price in at $8,000. Does this seem reasonable? Adding: that I haven't priced sod installation since 2002, so not sure where things are at these days.

If it helps, I paid $280 a pallet for Zoysia delivered earlier this year and did the install myself. I'm cheap and capable, so DIY was worth it to me. To have the grading, add soil and install done, that doesn't sound too terrible.

Thanks for the response. My dad is 94 and still enjoys cutting his grass, so if the man wants more grass to cut, he gets it.

I live in Hoover, AL and just had this done in my front yard two months ago. I got two quotes for scraping off the existing mostly dead centipede and weeds using a bobcat, adding screened topsoil, furnishing and installing 10 pallets of Emerald Zoysia. The reputable company wanted 10K. The Mexican I met at a redlight asked for 6K (he was next to me at a light in his dump truck). I'm cheap so I went with the Mexican. The reputable company was doing a job in my neighborhood and all their labor were Mexicans anyway. It wasn't perfect but it looks good to me.

On a side note: if you have termite stations or sprinkler heads, mark them and show them where they are. I had two termite stations get damaged but Cook's replaced at no charge.

doesnt sound bad

3 years ago i had a friend had her 250ftx250ft yard done, removed 6 small 10-15ft trees, yard leveled and graded with gravel driveway redone and that was right at $6k

yep, paid 285 for zoysia 2 weeks ago. i picked up and installed, this was direct from the farm in welsh.

so 14 * 285= is close to 4k, plus delivery plus everything else you said...seems very reasonable to me. very reasonable.

Is he set on centipede? I’d recommend zoysia.

Was quoted around $9k for 40 cu yds of fill & 6 pallets of sod (waiting on 2nd guy to show for another quote).

So, depending on how much fill is being added, may not be far off.

I got quoted $4400 for 18 pallets of centipede sod. No dirt work. I think that’s a pretty fair price.

Where is he located? Unless he needs multiple loads of sand, that’s a little high.

If he’s Nola/Northshore, send me an email if you’d like. Eray7@cox.net

What company is this? That price doesn't sound too bad for all of that. Is this in Baton Rouge?

Why. Centipede does better in most Deep South environs. I just put in 12 pallets of zoysia. Wanted to match existing front yard, not sure I did the right thing

I just had 7 pallets of Palisades Zoysia installed, 2 dump trucks of silt graded out and 4 catch basins with miscellaneous drain pipe for around $7k if I recall.

I just paid 235 per pallet of Zoysia, with 75 bucks per pallet to lay it. So you are giving about 4k for the dirt and tractor work and the hauling off old turf. Grass may be higher in your area, but that is what I paid for mine.

The sky high water bill for doing it in the middle of that heat wave probably drove the cost up quite a bit.

Thanks for all the responses. My dad decided to go with the guy that came in at $6,500, same type work and centipede. He has no patience!
