If he does, play him at Strong Safety. That is exactly where his future lies in the NFL. He needs to lose a bit of bulk weight to get his speed and quickness back as he had as a freshman.
LSU has a huge need at Safety and he could be the man.....and even develop into a 2nd Honey Badger.
If Mathieu retires, hiring him to coach our safeties would be an A+ move.

no.
I'm a Saints fan too. I'm not sure I would want the Saints to take him, because I have no idea where he would play. He's too small to play an edge rusher or DE. Borderline too small to play LB, and he doesn't seem to have the instincts to play there either. Doesn't have the coverage skills to make him a true safety.
If I'm in the NFC East, say Cowboys or Giants, I might take him as a speed rusher and spy against Jayden Daniels and Jalen Hurts, since I have 4 games against mobile QBs every year. But otherwise, he'd mostly be used to cover TEs (if he can stay with the best ones)... and that's assuming he retains his speed and burst. But it wouldn't be 1st rd, not as of now.

That’s 2 DC’s now(both also linebacker guys) and neither look to have a clue what to do with him.
It’s doesn’t matter how good of a coach you are. You can’t teach instincts and he just doesn’t have them. Not for ILB, at least.

Why?

If Nuss is coming back it's not going to be cheap to prevent him from going to the NFL.
You don't know that. Money isn't going to be the deciding factor for Nuss. It's going to be all about what he wants to do, which os probably going to boil down to projections.

for Perk to declare he would probably need to be able to pass at least a partial physical and participate in the workouts at LSU Pro Day at the end of March 2025
ACL is usually a 6 month recovery, he can certainly do it, but it is not a guarantee. 23 march 2025 is six months from his injury

Can someone tell me why it took so long for football coaches to say he was a STAR and not ILB
Posted on 11/24/24 at 9:38 pm to r0cky1
I think the rumor was that one camp was basically saying where he needs to be and the other was trying give them what they wanted

Wise for him to come back IMO
Despite what most of the idiots in this thread are saying - this is correct.
Currently his pitch is, “Look at my freshman tape!”
Dude was a non factor last season and this year before he got hurt. He’s got more tape of him playing terribly and out of position than he does to sell himself to NFL GM’s.
He can make money at LSU while still aiming to improve his draft stock instead of working off a practice squad on an 4-5th round contract (if he’s lucky) after an injury.

Tape and we got an entirely new defensive staff

I actually think it’s the exact opposite of what you say.
There are plenty of NFL GMs who will look at his Freshman tape and his workout numbers and chalk his sophomore year up to bad usage by House. I’d say he’s a late second to late 3rd rounder based on that - and if he gets that kinda grade from the advisory folks he needs to go.
On the other hand, if he comes back next season and puts more bad film out, then he will fall into the 7th rnd UDFA territory.
While NIL may close the gap some on the financial decision to stay/go, I think it still leans toward the NFL for someone like Perkins.

Keep telling yourself that. NFL millions or keep him through NIL millions. Either way, money is going to be the deciding factor.

Money has probably never been a factor for anything for him growing up. He's going to get his NFL millions one way or the other, whether it be this year or next. Barring an injury, which he will be insured for, he'll be a first rounder probably in either draft.

Cmon man
History has shown us that any LSU player with draft status is gone.
None of them are coming back.

A lot of this board said the defense was "much improved" with Perkins out.
With that being said, no shot he comes back.

See this is the problem though. It’s on the coaches to tell the kid no. He hurt us and his own stock at ILB
