Did anyone else think Jardin Gilbert played much better in the bowl?

The word is he has had a severe shoulder injury he was dealing with through the year. Which explains the missed tackles/not wrapping up. I thought in the bowl he looked more aggressive and looked a lot better in tackling situations. We still need to get some safeties in the portal, but if he can get healthy maybe he can get healthy he will be much better for us next year.

I thought he was going to get called for a late hit on the sidelines.

He made a few surprising hits. Too much attitude though. Often jawing. Wish he would let his hits do the talking.

If he was that much worse because of an injury, they should have sat him until it was better. The season ended what, 5 weeks ago and he's better now?

Not throwing in the towel on him but I remember coming into the year people chocking up his poor tackling at A&M to an injury as well.

So either way feels like he’s got either an injury issue or a tackling issue he needs to get passed or we need to get someone who can

I thought he played well and the LSU radio guys said he did. PFF graded him otherwise with a 56.1.

I honestly wouldnt say he did play better in the bowl game. PFF graded him out at 55.9, he had 2 missed tackles (which was one issue all season).

What he was good at in the bowl game was run defense, he actually made a play there which was good to see. Got a good grade of 73.2 in run defense as well. Coverage and tackling still need some work.

I think people thinking he played well again just kind of remember the extremes of that big TFL he had and such. Again, most people only remember the 10% each way of a player and not the middle 80% of plays they have.

His PFF grade was below 60%, that's not good.

His overall play was night and day better than the regular season. Not just run defense, but taking better angles and making better decisions.

Not really

Made some nice plays when he was run blitzing and unblocked.

Coverage wise and tackling recievers in space, he looked like he did all season.

I think one safety in the portal plus toviano/gilbert/spears/rogers is enough, most of these guys are younger and another year in the program. You also have Delane that can play safety.

He looked more aggressive in the bowl. I like the kid but he’s a rotational guy. Not great in coverage and hit and miss on angles/tacking. I think there is a role for him on this defense but not as primary starter

He’s been hanging that shoulder all year.

My concern for him is more in coverage and in space against quicker players. I think with a healthy shoulder he will do ok playing closer to the LOS.

That says get stamps out of there and don’t play the freshman who haven’t played all season for the whole second half and you won’t give up that many yards

Dude PFF screw that. I said he looked better than he has all year. Beyond his blitz tackle he was much more aggressive and made cleaner tackles than he has all year. I didn’t say he was great but your eyes tell anyone who watched that game he looked serviceable which is a huge step up from the awful play throughout the year that he displayed

If he plays like that next year than we are going to be in a good position.
