They can’t seem to hit their spots. They get behind in the count. They are wild and walk/hit too many batters. It’s so frustrating to see so many arms called in just to walk or hit a batter. I can’t remember a time when lsu was this bad with relief pitching.

I think Jay needs to stop filling the staff with a bunch of high ceiling guys that have to learn to pitch and start recruiting more Cowan like guys. Guys that may not throw 95 but can hit spots and have an out pitch. Sure you take some high ceiling guys but you need reliable college guys too.

That is because you have a short memory. Compare the conference-only stats to 2023.

2023:

SEC Team ERA: 6.17

SEC Team WHIP: 1.525

Number of pitchers with sub 5.00 SEC ERA: 3

2025:

SEC Team ERA: 4.41

SEC Team WHIP: 1.439

Number of pitchers with sub 5.00 SEC ERA: 7

It should be noted that Kade Anderson’s SEC ERA is 5.05 - he is not included in the 7 noted above.

4 maybe 5 quality SEC arms. The rest are complete shite. A new paradym concerning pitching needs to take place. Nate Yeskie was a horrible f'ing mistake, and will be the downfall of this season.

Ben McDonald said the average or typical college pitcher misses his spot by 11 inches. WOW. If true why set up inside our outside. I think the miss percentage seems high but is likely what our pitching staff capabilities are.

Would be happy with just throwing strikes.

Other than Cowan and Evans the relievers are below average. Some won't be here next year and rightfully so. Need to hit the portal big time in the relief pitching dept

I mean we are 4th in the conference in ERA

Perhaps SEC arms just aren't what you think they are this year

I think some people don't know what an average college reliever looks like.

Probably 10 teams in the SEC would love to have our bullpen. Warts and all.

We scored 3 runs against Northwestern St rag arms. I guess the pitching was supposed to hold their offense to 2 or less.

It's good to know the SEC-only pitching stats are better right now than they were in 2023.

The bad news is this staff has Tennessee, A&M and Arkansas coming up, which could change those numbers pretty quickly if they don't get something figured out.

you have the top tier

Cowan and Evans

You have the second tier

Ware, Rizy who have both been pretty good in SEC play than people realize

Then you have Noot and Williams who have started to get situational play and have been overall pretty decent

Then we have the real issue

Schmidt and Benge just aren’t giving us quality outings.

It’s really bad with Benge because he has pitched 6 times and given us 1 clean inning.

Schmidt’s issue is he will be cruising and then completely go noodle arm, get pulled after a couple walks and then the next guy (usually benge) gives up a bunch of runs.

While this is true, the conference-only win percentage of our SEC opponents so far (46.30%) is pretty close to the conference-only win percentage of all our SEC opponents for 2023 (47.16%).

So it could just be that our regular season schedule is tougher than it was the last time that we won a championship. Maybe we should all have that possibility in mind if we start to struggle in the next few weekend series.

The game has gotten out of control over obsession with velocity. More influence and effort needs to be placed on mechanics and location/control than anything.

Cowan can wreck shite with a decent fastball and a plus chamgeup.

Guys like Rizy and Mavers have all the velo capability in the world but I watched them get up 0-2 in the count and then throw 4 pitches not even close to the strike zone. Hell Mavers threw one completely over the catcher. That’s quite a feat to miss that badly.

Yeskie has to find a way to get these guys to get their shite together. At one point I thought our staff was the deepest in the nation. Right now, we have maybe 5 reliable arms
