Jared Smith, who is a big-time prospect in 2025, plays for Spain Park on Friday night. Bails on team Sunday and is now headed to Thompson.

Eligible to play immediately in Thompson’s last game Friday against Hoover (will be second time Smith has played Hoover this regular season). Seems like that should probably not be allowed.

Thompson and Spain Park are in the same region, and Thompson is the region champ. Spain Park likely not going to the playoffs.

His family moved from an apartment zoned for SP to one zoned for Thompson.

Hard to believe there isn’t a rule preventing an in-season transfer and play, but there isn’t.

They need a rule against that. It’s pretty much accepted truth that Thompson is recruiting players. I mean, out of all of the nice areas in the Birmingham area, the Tagovailoas picked the armpit of Alabaster to live?

Definitely they recruit but I think there are probably also people moving on their own to go and win. It kind of feeds itself.

Regardless of how this went down it doesn’t seem hard to put a rule in place that once the season starts you can’t move from one AHSAA school to another and play in that same season.

While others talk about out being committed to a team, a school, or a coaching staff, this baw is committed to winning championships

I would have preferred to go .500 with the guys I grew up playing with than win a state title with strangers.

Somewhere, some bleeding heart is saying it wouldn’t be fair to make a kid sit just because he transferred mid-season.

I’m sure. And this is basically end season. Thompson already has the region wrapped up. This guy is coming to basically play the playoffs.

The cases I can think of for this in LA involved someone flipping from LHSAA to MPSA for immediate play.

At least one case due to being kicked out of a school (an accomplishment given what school it was) and the other case being someone butthurt they lost their starting job.

I’m stunned you can transfer in season and play immediately

That’s a really really bad idea

Not sure how that’s allowed. There are rules against that very scenario in other states

I just don’t see how the kids on the team like this.

You’re a senior in high school, starting DE for one of the best teams in the state, then in the middle of the season a mercenary comes in and you get benched?

This was how Porpst did it at Hoover, they would go,find kids from the west side of Bham in peewee leagues the. set mom up,with an apartment in Hoover off Hwy 150. This is just the progression of that. Not to mentions Thompson coach may be a bigger slimeball than Propst

I mean if he was good enough a mercenary wouldn’t have to come in clearly they think they have to upgrade somewhere

They’ve had it rough, not just with kids to Thompson. Jared “was” my son’s teammate until yesterday. It’s the craziest HS thing I’ve seen.

If SP had all the kids that played in little league ball and middle school with my son and the grade ahead and behind him, they would be a major player in their region. It’s crazy.
