And he should. NBA games bring in revenue, WNBA do not.

That's because the mascot is more entertaining than women's basketball.

The WNBA doesn't make money. The NBA pays for it.

I don't understand what people don't understand when they bring up shite like this. Their league only exists out of pity and desire for good optics for the NBA.

Higher risk of a career ending injury for the mascot. Don't be jelly.

Wait how does a mascot make that much? That can’t be correct.

I could understand it if the team sucked and he had to draw in fans because the team couldn’t, but now they’re the champs

I always assumed they just got some tickets and shite

I have mascot experience working at kid sports back in the day. Maybe I should try out for a vacant position somewhere.

It was similar to this guy

The most shocking thing here is that a mascott makes 600k. Holy shite.

Where do I apply?

There's a decent series about this on Hulu called Behind the Mask. Follows mascots at the HS, college, and major pro levels.

Those guys at the NBA/MLB/NHL level make great money because there's only a handful of them that can actually do it. It's an incredibly physically demanding job.

The also work 12 mo/yr at every charity event, personal appearance, corporate dinner, executive golf tournament and more, plus 82 home games that entails them running through the crowd, up stairs and dunking pre game and halftime, all while wearing a 40lb suit made of boat carpet, hockey pads and fake fur.

There's like 10 people in the state of Colorado who could actually do that job.

In the wnba, there are 300 players who could be substituted by 1000 high school boys per year and make the same revenue and probably more.

Exactly. Including the guys (and gals) that can actually repel out of an arena's ceiling, or perform acrobatics, or can competently ice skate in those costumes, and you have a very, very short list.

I met one of the guys who played Thrash, the Atlanta Thrashers mascot. He was an absolute professional in every sense, and he took his job very seriously. It wasn't a "party" gig. It was a seriously demanding job, and he trained physically for it all year long.

It’s a full time job for the most prominent ones. Not only are they required to make public appearances throughout the year on behalf of the team, but they also supplement their income from everything from birthday parties to grand openings of new businesses.
