Ilia Topuria will be fighting for the lightweight title at UFC 317. His opponent will be Makhachev or Oliviera

Rumors that Islam may vacate & move to welterweight.

Disappointing news for Jones vs Aspinall. There was buzz going around yesterday that it was booked, now Chael Sonnen is saying it’s Aspinall vs Cyril Gane for the interim belt

Would they do 3 “title” fights at 317 or is it possible we get Aspinall at 318? Sounds like it will be 317 LINK

Should get news soon on UFC 318, but it’s almost a lock for Poirier vs Holloway in New Orleans on July 19. Assuming Gamrot will be on that card as well

Thought we’d get Derrick Lewis in New Orleans but looks like he’s been announced for Fight Night the week before in Nashville on July 12

It's A complete joke, but I guess Aspinall wants a fight and a paycheck while Jones sits there and ducks him another 6 months.

Just imagine if Tom somehow loses....what a shite show.

hw is in complete shambles. The fact that Gane would be considered for a interim title shot tells the complete story

I’m sick of the “Jones can do what he wants, he earned it” crowd. If he wants to do what he wants in the sense of Poirier and pick his last couple of fights, sure, but if he wants to be the heavy weight champ, he’s got to get in the fricking octagon with aspinall. It’s going to be 2 years pretty soon.

It’s karma for Dana fumbling the bag with Ngannou/Jones. HW would have been set for years if he would have got that done

It would be interesting if Islam made that move before the result of Belal-JDM. Would that signal that he's open to fighting Belal? Would be kind of awkward to move up and then not fight / wait for someone else to beat Belal.

I figured he probably wouldn’t fight again till September/October. UFC probably told him fight Topuria in June or move up.

Dana has shifted from allowing double champs over the past year. He wants them to give up the title in order to move up

kind of hard to do when Ngannou doesn't really want the fight and is a complete asshat in all negotiations.

Ngannou doesn’t want the fight anymore. He absolutely would have done it back in 2023.

Would be hard to imagine that the UFC would force Islam's hand--fight Topuria or move to WW--while Jones is beboppin' and scottin' all over Aspinall. Like you'd think they'd make the same ultimatum to Jones--fight Aspinall or vacate.

Maybe Aspinall is taking the Gane fight to magnify just how ridiculous the situation at HW is. Defending the interim belt yet another time while there is an active champion who doesn't want to fight him. Or maybe it's in response to Jones saying he needs 6 months, so Aspinall is like fine, but I'm not going to get rusty waiting for you.

then why was he such a pain in the arse to deal with back then? Dana is pretty straight shooter and has went on record about this and how Ngannou is a terrible person overall.

Sounds like you only got 1 side of the story. I don’t think there’s many people who think Ngannou is a terrible person

If Aspinall fights in June, they aren’t fighting in 2024, so maybe not 2 years, but 18 months. And they should have fight when Jones fought Stipe so it will have been 2 years since they should have fought, which is my point.

I don't think he's ducking but his reasons are ridiculous since he fought Volk under the same situation.

Why else would he not want to fight Topuria? Who would he prefer to fight at 155? Arman blew his chance, and he's already beaten him. He's already beaten Charles, too. Don't think Gaethje is getting the shot yet, I believe he even said after his last fight that he wanted one more fight before a title shot. Dustin and Max are fighting. That's pretty much everyone in the top 5.
