Apparently he was a nightmare to be around on set and used his power to intimidate the powerless until some people spoke up.

This show was hot garbage for the last two seasons ever since Adam F. Goldberg left and every episode became a repetitive mess of Adam, Erica, and Beverly being a huge piece of crap to their partners/friends.

He did note his penchant for dropping the word “vagina” on the set. According to a source on the show, a camera assistant made a complaint to her department head about Garlin’s use of the word. After the actor found out, he reportedly put his hands around her and kept saying “vagina” in her face over and over again.

According to an eyewitness of the incident, Garlin did not appear to be joking as he walked behind the female stand-in. “He screamed at her, ‘why are you always in my way? Get the f*ck out of my way’ as she was walking down the ramp on the set after they had done blocking for a scene. She was confused and looked around.” Garlin then turned to the woman’s husband,, saying, “tell your wife to get the f*ck out of my way”.

Following the VF interview, Deadline was contacted by a number of current and former co-workers of Garlin. Speaking on condition of anonymity over fear of retribution, they spoke of a great work environment on the show, which would change dramatically on the days Garlin is on set.

“He is extremely verbally and emotionally abusive,” a Goldbergs employee told Deadline.

In his VF interview, Garlin dismissed accusations of being verbally offensive by saying that he is just being “silly” as part of his schtick as a comedian. He did note his penchant for dropping the word “vagina” on the set.

According to a source on the show, a camera assistant made a complaint to her department head about Garlin’s use of the word. After the actor found out, he reportedly put his hands around her and kept saying “vagina” in her face over and over again. Overall, Garlin’s go-to jokes that a number of people on the show found offensive were talking about grandma’s vagina, balls and brassier, a co-worker said. Additionally, he would not address some longtime female crew members by name, using instead nicknames that some also considered offensive.

The VF interview addresses an incident involving Garlin and two longtime stand-ins on the show, a married couple who are beloved by the cast and crew.

Garlin referred to it as “a joke that was completely missed—because I like this guy. I like his wife. I’ve worked with them for years.”

According to an eyewitness of the incident, Garlin did not appear to be joking as he walked behind the female stand-in. “He screamed at her, ‘why are you always in my way? Get the frick out of my way’ as she was walking down the ramp on the set after they had done blocking for a scene. She was confused and looked around.” Garlin then turned to the woman’s husband,, saying, “tell your wife to get the frick out of my way”.

According to sources, cast and crew were appalled, and “this was was the straw that broke the camel’s back” in terms of their tolerance for Garlin’s antics, leading to new HR complaints.

It's crazy how hard it seems to be for some people to just act like a professional at work. Saying "Oh well I'm a comic" is a shitty excuse for acting like a jackass doing shite that you know bothers your co-workers or screaming curses at people for no real reason.

Like dude, show up, say your lines, and go home. Nobody is there for your comedy routine.

I’ve been a fan of the Goldbergs from the beginning, but yeah, the last couple of seasons has sucked. I’m still watching because my OCD says to finish it, but it’s a chore to get through each episodes.

What are they going to do? Kill him off on the show?

They should just make a joke about how "back in the 80s sometimes characters on your favorite show would vanish w/o any explanation!" and have them be watching something like A Different World or Saved By the Bell.

Next season of Curb will likely be 2025. Hope they remember by then.

This is pretty disappointing as a huge Curb fan. Doesn’t surprise me though I guess.

I have a friend who really likes this show. Made me watch one episode and it was awful. How is it still going on?

Many “stars” have shite excused as long as they can produce.

Once people are no longer tuning in / showing up in the theaters, or their bullshite gets out of control, they get let go for bad behavior.

Lots of industries have these kinds of issues, some more notoriously than others, especially when the person being a problem is irreplaceable or close to it.

Why do you say that?

They’ve been consistent with the last 2 seasons

Well that sucks. His character was one of the best parts of the show. I find it hard to believe they can keep making episodes without him.

It also always seems like they have a ton of fun on that set. Anytime there's a video of the cast backstage, they are having a blast. This seems like the kind of thing that would quickly end that feel.

ETA: This rises to the level of removing Roseanne from Roseanne. You can't just unilaterally remove major characters from a show and expect it to have the same feel.

I imagine that is how most big hollywood actors behave. Once they get big, they get used to people just tolerating the shitty behavior and they just do whatever the hell they want and think it's acceptable.

That being said, I see a Vanity Fair article that quotes someone saying that Garlin was "extremely verbablly and emotionally abusive", and can't help but roll my eyes.

No opinion on his guilt or legitimacy of the accusations. But he does look like Harvey Weinstein's younger brother.

the show has continued on without him? Weird

I haven't watched in a while, the early seasons were good and then the concept just got stale.

I watched one episode this season to see how they handled the pops death episode....and it missed
