I’ve never understood how these movies got so much acclaim when they were released. Nothing about the LOTR story or their visual effects make them more enjoyable than movies like Star Wars and Harry Potter. In fact, I’d argue that Star Wars and HP are far more enjoyable to watch because those are simpler stories to follow.

It’s a high fantasy story that requires you to have read all of the books to even have the slightest understanding of what’s going in on. If you have never even touched the books, it’s super hard to follow. Stories like Star Wars do a much better job of explaining all of the lore in the OT without making it hard to follow. Lucas managed to create a trilogy that was super fun to watch and didn’t rely on his audience having to read a source material to understand the story at all.

Banned for giving my opinion? My goodness LOTR fanboys are some of the most easily offended people ever.

It’s literally three movies about people walking to a fricking volcano.

The reasons you gave were false so your opinion is invalid. You’re trolling

That's an understandable take.
The LOTR movies(and the Hobbit Movies) are about teleporting the reader/viewer to the world of Middle Earth. It's a fantasy realm with a lot of "air". The characters and their quests are secondary.

I get why you'd feel that way if you don't care for fantasy, I don't like fantasy either. That said, I thought the effects were pretty good.

False because you think they were false? That’s your opinion, and I’m allowed to have my own too.

Nah

I never read any of the books (did read the Hobbit but that was later). Did I understand every detail and reference? No. But you don’t really need to and so I was still able to follow the main plot lines and find it entertaining

The reason the trilogy gets lots of praise is not just because people like how the movies portrayed it, it’s also because it was massive undertaking to be able to adapt such an intricate and massive story and world. They clearly put a ton of effort into it and most feel like it paid off and wasn’t sloppy by any means

Also why does seemingly everything got to be “most overrated…of ALL TIME”? What happened to just being overrated? Sounds like sports talk which is mostly just that

No they are false

Your
- lore/world building
- effects comment
- requirements to read the books

All false and your comment about the lore/world building contradicts your own statement about Star Wars being simple.

What you’re doing is is rage baiting/hot take/trolling

I’m not saying that LOTR didn’t have some cool world-building, because It does. It’s just that the story is very complex and convoluted at times.

What’s complex about it?

There’s a lot of nuance in the inner conflicts of characters like Faramir and Boromir. They aren’t flat archetypes but rather literary foils.

So you prefer one dimensional, flat characters? What about Han, Luke, Leia, Vader/Anakin, Lando? All conflicted, multi layered characters.

If you don't like LOTR, fine. But to say "most overrated movie trilogies of all time" is a false statement. As well as saying "you have to read the books to understand it" which is also not true. I'm willing to bet 99% of people who have watched the movies have not read the books or least not till after they've seen the films.

If you don't like LOTR and don't understand why other people do, just say that dude. That's fine. No need to come out with a bait title like that.

Anakin has a clear and defined character arch that’s efficiently told by Lucas without giving too much away.

In Episode 4, 5, and 6, much of his story is told only through Obi Wan and we don’t even see him as a character until the very end when Luke takes his mask off. Say what you want about George Lucas, but that’s a pretty damn good character arch

Yes, the prequels were flawed as hell but they at least had a vision and filled in the backstory that was elaborated on by Obi Wan in A New Hope and ROTJ
