Netflix has just launched the trailer for a harrowing new drama, and it looks beautiful despite the terrifying tale it tells. Society of the Snow, based on the book of the same name, tells the story of the real and infamous Andes plane crash in late 1972. When Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571 crashed in the snowy mountains, the survivors had to resort to the unthinkable in order to survive.

Cool. I will check it out.

I always liked Alive, the 1993 movie with Ethan Hawke, which is based on the same event.

They made us read Alive when I was 12 or 13. The crash was just a couple of years before then. Kind of freaked us out.

Alive was really good from what I remember. Haven't seen it in decades though.

Don’t speak ill of the dead. Their flesh was seasoned with courage and selflessness.

It's funny how its been sort of celebrated now as a great survival story but if you watch the numerous documentaries...this was buried at the time, the whole cannibalism thing put a damper on welcoming them...nobody wanted to talk about it...Uruguay was embarrassed.

“Thanks to the shelter of this plane we… are Alive!”

“Mmm… pass me a chunk of copilot!”

I would have fought men and women alike to devour the nuts off the dead…and living.

Now that I think about it, it's been at least 10 years since I've seen it. I should revisit it. I hope it holds up.

If you ever feel that your life sucks or is shitty in some way, give it a watch and remember that it's based on a true story. It'll give you some perspective.

Why don't they just re-air the original. Did it fail to cover some significant aspect of the tragedy?

Yeah, of all the fascinating stories out there in history why do we need another Alive?

I vaguely remember they find some toothpaste in someone’s luggage and are just ecstatic to eat toothpaste.

Kind of a weird thing to stick in my memory from this movie, but I remember being shocked that something like that could ever be such a delight.
