The 100 best '90s movies

The 1990s represent a magical decade in pop culture history. The O.J. Simpson trial, gangster rap, Must See TV, grunge music, and “Friends” dominated water cooler conversations, while the internet was just beginning to grab the attention of the world and hit college computer labs. While all of this was happening, incredible movies from big-budget blockbusters to quiet love stories were being released nearly every weekend at movie theaters around the world. Advances in computer-generated imagery gave audiences both the scariest dinosaurs they’d ever seen (“Jurassic Park”) and a heartwarming story of a cowboy and astronaut discovering life outside of the toy box (“Toy Story”). To celebrate the incredible cinematic achievements of the decade, Stacker compiled data on all 1990s movies to come up with a Stacker score—a weighted index split evenly between IMDb and Metacritic scores. To qualify, the film had to have a premiere date between 1990 and 1999, have a Metascore, and have at least 1,000 votes. Ties were broken by Metascore and further ties were broken by votes

The matrix and T2 at 79 and 78 respectively?!?
What the frick.
The matrix changed cinema and film making for the 21st century.

Would certainly have included:
Man Bites Dog
Bottlerocket
The Last Seduction
The Limey
Jackie Brown
Summer of Sam
but cannot be easy putting something that far reaching together

I don't agree with the ordering but there were a lot of great movies in the 90s.
And it's sad to think how few of them would ever get made today.

How in the hell did Jurassic Park not make that list?

Sure
I think the trilogy deserves to be in the Top 10 if you count them as a whole.
Red is the most acclaimed, I prefer Blue, White is the weakest.

I’ve never even heard of this one.
EDIT: On second thought I have heard of this trilogy before. Never watched it, but I have heard high praise about it.

I haven’t either and I thought I was relatively up on film in the 90s

Awful list. T2 at 78 and Princess Mononoke at 77? Both are Top 20 at minimum and are way better than the Lion King.
EDIT: Aladdin is entertaining, but to say it’s the 27th best film of the 90s? I mean, I own it, but that’s completely insane. Please anyone defend how that’s worthy of 50 points higher than T2? I haven’t heard of half the films on this pretentious garbage millennial list.

Never heard of these and after looking at the list I doubt I have seen half of them. Now I was deployed half of the 90s so that may have something to with it.
Leaving Las Vegas should be higher and Forrest Gump should be in the top 10.

I've never seen the first of those three.

Yeah, another big miss. This was just pretentious garbage. It’s “I know about more films than you do” Millennial. This person revealed their hand too much by putting Aladdin in basically the Top 25. It’s not an actual top list.

Never really liked the Matrix but probably opposite of the reasons you do. I hate that films now try and sell themselves on special effects and unrealistic cinematography instead of actual real acting and a good story. But that is me so dislike away.

Even outside of that, the Matrix is an amazing movie. It’s definitely in the Top 30 90s films just on its own accord, nevertheless what it did for film as a whole.

I understand it has a huge following but have never been able to sit through as my interest disappears to quick. Maybe more to do with how bad Reeves is in my opinion even though I have grown to like him over the years a bit more. Maybe I will give it another try in the future.
