I remember MTV erroneously reporting his death a few weeks earlier.

Mostly shitty music outside of Pearl Jam, anything with Chris Cornell and Temple of the Dog.

other than being called “the voice of a generation”, “the biggest band in the world” and other such comments when he was still alive.

The private investigator Love hired says he believes without any doubt Love had a huge part in his death. She had him killed. Couple that with her psychotic personality and it’s a pretty good chance she did it. 85/15 she did it IMO.

From what he was able to drum up and what he was going to get to before their entertainment lawyer shut everything down on her end, I would say it's a slam dunk she had him killed. He never should have married that drug whore.

But to deny their influence on grunge/music in general and on our generation, even to this day, is just being ignorant.

Grunge wasn't all that influential. There's like maybe five grunge bands that had any sort of success. And a couple of them are more metal than grunge. The whole genre was a flash in the pan and mostly died when Kurt rearranged his head.

90's music was basically Gen X taking all of the boomer rock we were forced to listen to and worship, chewing it up and barfing it out. It was about catharsis, visceral expressions of real emotion.

So, 90's music is a huge pile of vomit? This we agree on. And as early Gen X, give me 1975-1989 over the 90's all day every day.

Cobain was a moderately-talented conman who faked his stomach illness to get oxy from his doc. He committed suicide in a withdrawal-induced period of depression.

He and Courtney were pillheads who happened to get famous because the Seattle grunge scene was put on the map when Neil Young started promoting Temple of the Dog.

i think all of this is true except the moderately talented part.

so when he was alive it was thriving and he was called great.
he dies and so does the genre?

kinda sounds like he was carrying it and deserving of his ranking.
