Looking to get around a 30 horse machine. General brush mowing, moving some dirt around.

Looking for general opinions on make that include maintaining costs and reliability. We're just moving some dirt around, discing, mowing, etc.

I have Deere 3032e, 8 years old but less than 500 hours. Other than a dead battery not a lick of trouble.

Kubota and get the insurance with it. I put a 70hp cab and air in my pond one night and got a brand new machine 3 weeks later.

Another for Kubota. Stay away from Deere. All the new stuff is over engineered and they have proprietary software that makes it a PITA to repair (outside of taking it back to them).

I have 4 Kubotas. They all run like a top and have performed flawlessly for years. Dealer network is solid though individual dealerships all have their flaws.
Wouldn't shy away from JD either, but Kubota has been outstanding for me.

You’re paying for the dealer more so than the piece of equipment.

All brands besides Deere use a standard skid steer quick attach system for their loaders. This means if you buy Deere you are stuck with Deere or Deere compatible attachments. The others are all universal. Green paint costs more than blue, orange, or red paint.

Last year I was in the market for a tractor. Looked at all brands. Did gobs of research. The Kubota dealer steered me towards a Massey. Better lift capacity, you don’t have to run the engine at higher RPMs to max out the hydraulic flow, Iseki engines have been used by MF for a few decades so they are proven. I’m more than pleased.

Kubota will hold a higher resale value than most other brands.

That's what we have.

Pro tip: If you get one with a cab, limo tint the windows. It doesn't have to be street legal and that tint is a life saver in the summer heat.

Disclaimer: Don't own a tractor. But I do watch YouTube

These guys are pretty pissed off at JD...apparently, Deere requires you to fully depend on them for repairs, due to some legal crap regarding the use of their software.

Right to Repair Ban?

Kubota is going to be the first answer with Deere coming in pretty close to second if not tied.....but both are insanely over priced.

All of them sold in the compact / subcompact class are fine. The red ones and blue ones are perfectly serviceable and can be bought new for far less money

I've got an '09 JD and if I bump the key it cranks right up despite little to no maintenance or attention. It's bulletproof.

I've owned/ own Deere, Kubota, and Massey. Have operated just about all of the big brands. Bought a new 100 horse Massey with a 20 ft. batwing last year, and chose it this time around based on specs vs. Kubota, New Holland, etc., because it wasn't even close, even though my dealer leaves a bit to be desired.

That said, most of the time it's all about the dealer's service center first, but there's always a mix of that with specs, price, financing, warranty, etc.

For a 30 horse I'd get a basic Kubota L series. No frills and they just work. I have a 47 horse with 2100 hours on it and it just keeps on going.

Doubt I'll ever darken the door on a deere dealership again, especially for subcompact utility tractors like you're looking for. It's not at all hyperbole to say that most Deere dealerships couldn't give two shits about you and your 30 horse, and they'll prioritize you in that way when it comes time for service, sales, etc.

Since it looks like you are in Bogalusa, call Terry's Tractors in Baton Rouge and get you a good deal on a used tractor: Terrys Tractors Everyone I know that has gotten a tractor from him has been happy.
