Anyone recommend levelized billing with Entergy?

Setting up service for my house I just bought. I have the option to do levelized billing which I've never heard of. The description reads as:
In my head I'm thinking this will be good for budgeting, but maybe I'm naive. What do ya'll think?
quote:
Levelized Billing allows customers to pay approximately the same amount for electric service every month. For example, they pay a lower amount than their actual bill amount during the high-bill summer months, but are required to make it up with higher payments during the low-bill winter months. This creates manageable bills regardless of temperature, volatility of our fuel cost, and usage. Under this program, bills are essentially an average of the customer’s monthly utility costs over a 12-month period. Bills will vary slightly each month. The benefit of Levelized Billing is that fluctuations in bill amounts are averaged out over the year.

I like seeing how low my bill can go in the winter

I don't trust that shite. I know people who do it but I want to pay for what I use for that month not some 'average' that was set out from the people before me using electricity at the same address.

I think it's a good way for them to always round up and squeeze a few more dollars out of you over the long haul.

Also, after you get the account setup, click on the 'am I eligible for level billing' and it will tell you what the monthly estimate will be.
I agree with, Boo, I think it's another way for Entergy to cheat us.

I trust that shite as much as electronic roulette.

I would be very skeptical especially of whatever amount they said it was prior to me knowing how my house heats/cools. It seems like a good idea during the summer in NOLA when my AC is running all day but depends on how much they want for the winter months when I make up for high summer bills

My bills were ridiculous in the summer, so levelized billing made budgeting much easier.

I went the regular route and then clicked on the "Am I eligible for levelized billing?" option and it said:
Doesn't seem bad at all. I'm budgeting for $175 in the dark for electricity a month. That may be way high but getting out $50 under that would be nice. I'll wait and see how my bill fluctuates first before deciding anything.

Under this plan, the electric and/or gas portion of your bill will be approximately $123.00 per month plus non-metered amounts and taxes.

quote:I'm doing the same thing. I live in an apartment with all energy efficient appliances and stuff. It says my level billing would be approximately $43 plus taxes. I could take the easy route and just do the level billing but I want to see what I actually use for electricity and it's not going to break the bank obviously.

ETA: I didn't have the non-metered amounts comment in mine. it just said "plus taxes"

I do it. I had a huge swing from winter to summer, so did levelized so that monthly budget stayed consistent.
I mean, if Entergy is going to cheat you, they can just as easily pad your numbers every month and overcharge, as they can with levelized billing. It doesn't somehow open the door for them cheating. It's already open, lol.

I've been doing levelized billing for 5 years and it's awesome. It helps our budget much better in the heat of the summer.

My level billing says it would be 89.00 which is pretty damn cheap, unfortunately I move at the end of this month. I was also gone for most of the last three months so my bill was next to nothing, I'm guessing this is an average of the last 12 months so would it levelize upward?

We do it.
It's better than the culture shock you get when it warms up from May through October

No clue. I have a small one bedroom (like 720 sq ft) condo and I'm constantly cold so it's not like the A/C has to work that much.
ETA: I just moved in May 1st so it must be averaging out the last person's Entergy Bill for the last 12 months.

I've always had it at my current house.I know my bill every month and when running the a/c 24/7 in summer months it is awesome. It drops some in the winter and what I'm not using in the winter is being more than maxed out in the summer.
I've done both ways in the past and must say I love the average billing method.

I guess it would make sense for budgeting purposes if your bill is varying to the tune of several hundred dollars depending on time of year. Otherwise it doesn't really matter. Doesn't cost anything..
