Tara was a great school in the early 70s.
Fun Fact: The 1974 Tara High football team won the State Championship after finishing the Regular Season with a losing record.

quote:Yep Kenny Guillot was on that staff... they were last team to do that with an on field losing record 4-5-1. They beat an extremely heavily favored West Jeff team in semis 20-7 and a heavily favored Fair Park in finals 10-9. Both WJ and FP were top 5 most of year.

They broke WJ's wishbone with 2 d1 backs

Most EBRPSS schools were good in the 70s.

WHAM-Sherwood Middle- BRMHS works pretty good.

BR Magnet HS
The only competent BR Magnet kids I've met were all Asian. The white kids that go there are very indoctrinated and useless.

U-High is a solid public school. Probably the best in the city.
It’s run by LSU instead of the EBR school system so that’s a plus.
And when you say “best”, if you mean it’s the “best public” school, then I agree.

I agree. BRHS is not the same anymore. Of course there are always outliers.

I’d stack my kids academic accomplishments against any of their friends that went to private schools in BR.
And I would bet my entire net worth that some of the kids I know that went to private schools in BR would blow your kids out of the water.

BRFLAIM has been a solid choice for our kids so for. They can continue to WHAM and then hopefully test into BRHS while staying in French immersion

I'm pretty catholic.
Maybe St Michael’s on a stretch but the Catholic high schools in BR are Catholic in name only

We moved from BR in the early 80’s mainly because of the schools (and the massive desegregation failure). I ride by those same schools every once in a while and they still look like the dumps they were 40 years ago. It’s a damn shame. I think only BR High and Woodlawn had makeovers done.

There have been some more:
Lee High...now Liberty High was completely re-built
BR Visual and Performing Arts completely rebuilt
Kenilworth S &T moved to Siegen Ln and built new
McKinley is in the process of being rebuilt
Mayfair Lab will be re-built in 2027-2028.
Those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.
