I’m not sure it’s fair to equate the two. Madonna became a household name because, for the time, she had a groundbreaking, cutting edge act. I don’t recall anyone ever claiming that she’s an all-timer because of the quality of her music.
On the other hand, I’ve still never quite figured out the cult of Beyoncé
