It’s finally complete. About time. Great kit with the exception of the left wing lights was too short leaving a gap. There were no decals in the kit so I sourced Kit Masx masking set for a bird during the Truk Lagoon raid. Great, great masks but took a little getting used to. Highly recommend. Paints were MRP lacquers for the outer; cockpit was done using Ammo by Mig Atom colors (acrylics). I think I’ve found a new favorite paint.

Also, found a new sealant - Ammo by MiG’s satin acrylic varnish: no mixing and cleans with water.

Carried bombs but known for torpedos. Like to see that.

Regardless, well done.

I really like the small details like the exhaust pipe paint.

It makes it very realistic looking, as if the engine has sent a lot of hot gas out that pipe.

fricking sweet.

I love the olive drape in that canopy section window pane.

Super cool detail that you can still see through all the glass.

Clean build; proud work.

I did a post a week or so ago shoring the exhaust staining. First time I’ve ever done it. Thanks!!

My great uncle, who I was close with, was a turret gunner in an avenger in ww2. He had some great stories. He would always complain that the Navy planes didn’t get any respect. This is the second time in two days I’ve been reminded of him. Read an article yesterday of a gunner that was fatally injured so bad that they couldn’t remove his body so they buried him at sea still in his turret.

I spent a lot of time with him and heard a lotta stories and would give anything to go back for a day and talk some more.

Hope you enjoyed it! Did you get any pics of his bird?

Like you, I’d give anything to go back and talk to my Grandfather. He also told a lot of stories about his plane, etc

I truly did enjoy it. Got a little teary eyed thinking about him. Makes me think of all the times I drove by his house, too busy to stop and visit. He had a model Avenger in his shop as well as old pics of his plane. One with him sitting on the deck of his carrier after he had been rescued from the Atlantic. His radioman/best friend drowned. After he died I never went by there and got anything……just didn’t feel like it was right…..almost like looting memories. I need to call his son and see if they have them. I would love to at least see them again.
