The unsettling scene left victims "projectile vomiting" inside and outside the Kumo Sushi and Steakhouse, a popular Long Island restaurant near Stony Brook University, according to witnesses.

12 hospitalized, 28 sickened after dining at Kumo Sushi & Steakhouse - Eleven 13-year-olds went out to a birthday lunch Saturday and wound up being rushed to the hospital after an apparent food poisoning sickened more than two dozen people, according to New York health officials. "The common denominator seemed to be the rice," Arial Arias told Fox News Digital on Monday. The girls ordered different meals — chicken, beef, vegetables — but they all came with rice.

Now Arias' daughter and 10 friends, all on the same competitive dance team, are suffering from anxiety and lingering stomach pain and worried about whether they'll be able to make their next competition, she said. They sat down to eat around 2 p.m. and were all sick before 4 p.m., she said.
The birthday girl initially wanted to bring her friends to a nearby Italian restaurant, Arias said.
"I said, 'Oh, Kumo, it's more of an experience,'" she said of the hibachi-style Kumo Sushi and Steakhouse, where the family has dined many times before. "It's so much more fun. I kind of forced her into it — so I have so much guilt that she didn't even want to do it there. And this happened."

How does rice make you sick? I haven't heard of that before.
Also...there will be lawyers.

If it was reheated rice, that shite can really frick you up if it's not stored then reheated properly.

It was probably days old reheated rice that got left out overnight. Would have smelled like arse.

Rice is one of the most common culprits of food poisoning.
Potato salad at BBQs too. The starch is the reason for that one. Keep your food in appropriately temped vessels, people!

No kidding.
The bacteria must of been all over that rice for it to happen that quick

It produces a toxin. The toxin is what caused the vomiting and shite.

Yep makes sense.
I've had food poisoning twice,(2nd time was XMas of '16) I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.
Coming out both ends w/no control is just awful

I'm so sick of this lingering anxiety bullshite over minor incidents. You weren't stabbed walking to your car in the high school parking lot.

Worst food poisoning I ever got was from eating raw oysters off the pilons of the Leeville Bridge...... I still eat raw oysters though.

Not only could it have been, but it was me.
My buddy and I went to a Hibachi place for his little sister's birthday a long time ago and similar to this about 2 hours later it hit us in the guts at the same time. We both rush into neighboring stalls and sit down. I modestly try to control the release but finally said, "Bro... I'm sorry." followed by the loudest, nastiest smelling diarrhea I've ever cut loose. It sounded like a fire hydrant got cut on.
He began to laugh and immediately did the same as he lost all control.
Think Harry in dumb and dumber, but two dudes next to each other with only the privacy divider between us.
We were sick as dogs for the rest of the night, but it was a good laugh at the time with the double bombing.

damn, I have eaten A LOT of reheated rice in my day, and I'm not sure it was always stored properly. I totally didn't know that was a thing.
