The moon gets bombarded with approximately 33,000 small golf ball sized meteorites a year. Each one produces the explosive energy of 7 pounds of dynamite. A 1000+ pounds of space dust, filled with tens of thousands of micrometeorites traveling at between 25,000 to 175,000 kph hit, explode and vaporize every day on the moon. Larger meteors from 6"-36" strike the moon every year with explosion equivalent to tons of TNT with each strike. Every year at least one or two 8' in length or diameter hit.. These explode with the force of >1000-1500 tons of TNT.

How will the astronauts be protected? Can they even BE protected?

Without looking it up, I'm guessing they will build underground and on the light side which is partially protected by Earth.

Before smartie had to hijack the thread with logic, can we go back and pretend the moon is fake? Popcorn ready.

We first walked on the moon damn near 60 years ago. If we haven’t had the urge to inhabit the moon yet, I don’t think we ever will….regardless of what space oligarchs say.

I think the oxygen situation is more imperative than an off chance a small meteorite might hit you.
But that's just me

They never will. It’s far too cold. The Space talk is just the next stock market bubble to keep things inflating till a 1930s style depression.

If people actually thought about these things logically not a penny would be invested or spent on it

1. The moon isn't real.

2. If the moon were real and people were able to live on it, the HOA stories coming out of that joint would be wild!

they won't...

humans will NEVER occupy another planet, especially one without the protection of an actual atmosphere that can accommodate life... we are just not meant to survive outside of this precious blue dot in the cosmos....

In Texas, that's just another Summer hailstorm passing over the Chevy dealer.

Seriously though, the moon has a LOT of surface area, and the earth-facing side is somewhat protected, so hunker down in a crater, build down not up, which you need to do anyway for ice and minerals, and viola, there you are.

All of these are solvable problems. They are actually a lot more solvable than living under the ocean at any appreciable depth. Humanity will expand, or it will die - that's just who we are and have been since we grabbed the Neanderthal's turf and apparently their women too millennia ago.

It’s just a certain part of the moon where that occurs. That’s the part we’re gonna gift China.

The Apollo 11 lunar module is still up there and in one piece. It hasn't been hit by anything in all these years.

You make the odds sound astronomically bad. I wonder what they really are.
