I just bought my 6 year old a CAT 8. It crushes and a bit cheaper than the 9.

I was partial to the Easton with red lettering.

This. Once broken in, a composite bat should only be used during games.

I know you're joking, but just let them have fun. If you really want them to get better get a small barrel bat and force them to learn to make good contact. At least in practice.

PS: I played with wooden bats like real men. Yeah, I'm old.

Sadly, while I know it’s partially a joke I guarantee it’s rooted and some truth. Too many Parents don’t wanna see their kids have a disadvantage on the field if they can purchase equipment upgrades to make up for deficiency or give them an advantage over someone else on the same talent level.

All of the baseball players at my son’s school carry around two bats. Not sure why at all…one glove, two bats.

It's so they will have a place to hang each cleat when they're walking from the parking lot.

when I was a kid we just used whatever shitty bats the coach had

This. And when we got older our whole team pretty much used the same one bat even though there were more. After a couple of years “old chromie” had to be retired.

Old school Louisville slugger TPX was goated.

i know its sarcasm but if you kid does lots of tee work or front toss and you only want 1 bat that will last more than a season....get the alloy.

alloy will be much hotter out the wrapper, will have better durability and at the young ages....will be pretty damn close on exit velo.

as they get older, the composite bats offer small advantages in exit velo but they have to be broken in properly or hot rolled to break them in correctly.

the person that said cat8....if you can grab one cheaper...do it. I actually think they are as good or better than the cat 9s.

Any big name bat will do for those age groups, balls aren't really gonna fly off a bat regardless until they get older. I'd start investing in good bats come Middle thru high school where you can notice a difference in performance

If you get composite make sure to drive over the barrel a couple times with your Tundra so you can get those spider webz

You could take a few cuts on a telephone pole but the staples might scratch up the paint job

My youngest just turned 8. He swings an old beat up Cat 8 better than all the new stuff. Alloy is the way to go at this age. A hitter will hit period. Get him the bat he swings the best.

As opposed to alloy? I’m looking to get new bats for my kids. A Marucci Cat 9 composite bat is $20 cheaper than the alloy.

Find them a used Cat7 alloy and let them have some fun.

Unless you are buying a certain CF zen or the one good Meta Prime a Marucci alloy is the way to go.

I've got a 30/20 Cat 7 sitting in my garage.

This. I found both the cat 7 and cat 8 to be hotter than the cat 9.

I'd also look at the Louisville Slugger Solo if I were shopping for a young kid. I think the price is a little better. Swing weight (so much more important than people realize) is pretty much identical to the cat series bats and the pop is damn close.

Go buy a used bat, at ages 8 and 11 there is no reason to buy a new bat. Kids outgrow them fast and they are barely broken in.

Your kid is not getting over the fence, he needs to smack about 80-90 feet for a basehit.

Next, waste money on lessons in fielding and pitching instead.

All time bests:

1. Easton- Redline
2. Louisville Slugger- TPX
3. Easton- Reflex

How many strokes to heat up a Composite? Bought my son an adv the Hype for Christmas and he's been using it all spring and it was hot out of the wrapper been smashing all season. But I believe it's the Indian not the arrow.

Correct answer here. And as another poster stated with composite they will outgrow it before they are at the size where it will really benefit them. If your son's a power hitter the trampoline effect of the composite is a plus but that usually comes when they're older in age. With slow swings composite is actually counterproductive. My oldest gets the latest and greatest every year because he gets so much use out of his gear in a year but my 7 year old still gets used stuff because it doesn't matter much at that age. My 7 is the best contact hitter on his team and his bat came from a garage sale while my oldest has about 1300 in bats with the bulk of it being the 2017 zen.

8 year old, stick w/ alloy. look into victus vandal, very balanced bat.

11 year old, i would tend to suggest composite bat. composite/2 piece bats generally run a smidge heavier. 11 yr old should be at least in a -8 bat. stay away from demarini.

My son is 9 and we use blast sensors. His bat speed sits between 49 mph and 52 mph. The Trampoline effect is real with higher bat speed. I agree with that.
