It looks like it worked, at least at the time of this video.

Damn that’s pretty brilliant

Will insurance cover damages if you flood your own building?
Posted on 4/9/25 at 10:55 pm to LegendInMyMind
Insurance companies be like “Sorry, you caused the damage on purpose. Claim denied.”

That's what I was wondering.

Insurance will say, there's no way your place would have flooded

Insurance will say (and technically rightly so) that rising floodwater didn’t cause the damage so they’ll likely deny the claim. We all understand why he did it, but what he did does not meet the definition of a flood according to FEMA’s flood policy.

Owner has done this for years because he can’t get flood insurance. He does it every flood actually.

Now, that makes sense.
I imagine he has the process down pretty well by now.

Smart. Broken pipe is covered by homeowners.

But there is likely a limitation on the benefit payable for that loss.

The next week when someone doesn't flood their own building with clean water to prevent flood water from coming in the insurance company be like "Sorry, you failed your duty to mitigate damages. Claim denied".

They would never know that you did that here in there are inspecting thousands of homes in the area when they came it will be a week later and you can just say been cleaning already.
I wish I would’ve done this in 16, but I don’t think my house could hold that much water. It would just fall out, so you have to do it simultaneously as the waters rise and I’m not sure at what rate all the faucets in my house could keep up with rising flood waters.
ChatGPT said if I use three spigots I can do about an inch an hour for 2000 square-foot home

Definitely would have kept my mouth shut if i had done that. Eventhough flood water would have done it anyway, insurance companies will fix every single place around that restaurant and then not help that guy out

None of them likely had flood insurance anyway.
