There have been several accidents like this with people looking at there phones and for a split second it happens crashing into the back of a big rig. That dot bumper on the back of a dry van trailer isn't what you want to crash into. Sad all around

Don’t know about “world famous” but it is a damn popular place about midnight after an LSU football game!

Took me a sec to figured out that MVA = motor vehicle accident.
Sorry. I was a career paralegal and did a lot of insurance defense work. I use acronyms and airport codes a lot.

Regarding the seat belt issue, I grew up when seatbelt use was not mandatory (and lots of cars in the road still just had lap belts) as well as a very laissez faire view of them, and some even argued there were more dangerous. That said I basically never run into anyone that doesn't immediately buckle up, is this coming back or was this an outlier?
My wife isn’t great about it and my oldest daughter is terrible. Absolutely pisses me off. She now in middle school and I’m about to be getting ballistic about it before she enters HS.

An 18 year old in my neighborhood lost control around a corner and went into another neighborhoods fence and Cyprus trees. He went through the windshield and was basically dead on the scene. His friends were all upset because he talked about how he never wore his seatbelt as like a badge of honor. Not sure why that generation would pick seatbelts as a way to make a stand. I feel for this poor girls family as they will never be the same again.

If you're driving, don't put the car in drive or reverse until everyone buckles up. Your wife is sadly irresponsible. All it takes is one moron on the road...

Very sad but not wearing a seatbelt while driving long distance is crazy. You don't even notice it is there
Posted on 5/26/26 at 6:37 am to Red Stick Tigress
seems like it's rampant. saw in the news a teen in Al ejected, not wearing belt. a local girl killed a few yrs ago. broadsided, ejected; no belt. I'm sure it's not just teens though. maybe they need new Mazda. that seat belt chime never goes off.
truth be told, I was 26 ish before I started wearing full time. moved to Bham in '91 and driving a Firebird on 65 through downtown staring at the underside of an 18 wheeler on either side will do that.

The Love’s across the street has been a godsend. I will never have to pee (or God forbid, poop) in that hellhole again.

They always say it’s a split second but it’s always much longer.
I’ve had to get on my wife about it because I know she doesn’t let the car do her text to speech, so she’s actually looking at her phone to read the texts. Her argument is, well I only text when I’m stopped at a light

Wonder maybe if she dropped something, unbuckled, didn't pay close enough attention and hit the truck. Either way, tragic.

Had a buddy that cut out a seatbelt from an old car so the car thinks he’s always buckled in. Told him that took a lot of thought and effort to be a dumbass. Thankfully kids made him rethink how “uncomfortable seatbelts are”

So very sad.
We lost a coworker from Slidell just last week in an accident on I-10 in Mobile. She was coming home from a graduation in Florida and was rear-ended by a Ram 3500 pickup truck. The collision pushed her into the back of a semi truck sitting in traffic on the Mobile Bay bridge. Sweet lady who was 65 and probably nearing retirement. Her sister (age 67) was airlifted to the hospital, along with the driver of the pickup.

How can you not buckle up in 2026?
The car will ding at you incessantly

Gotta be on paying attention going through Port Barre.

I hope she wasn’t on her phone.
I’m not speculating on her but it’s insane the number of drivers of both sexes I see with their heads down typing on their phones. Just the other day I was behind a car on Essen at lunchtime I thought might be a drunk driver. No. Just texting. It’s not like you don’t stop every 30 seconds on Essen at that time of day anyway and could handle your “business” then.
