Officials enact sweeping ban on common yard maintenance practice — and violators could be hit with hefty fines
i got a great idea; let's ban ALL modern conveniences and go back to push mowers and rakes.

Arlington, Massachusetts, enacted a permanent ban — effective March 15 — on the commercial use of gas-powered leaf blowers. It is the second stage of a plan approved in 2022 to fully ban gas-powered blowers in the town.
The first stage, which was implemented in March 2023, involved a seasonal ban on the blowers by commercial users. Now, landscaping and mowing companies cannot use them at all, while residents can only use them from March 15 through May 31 and from Sept. 15 through Dec. 30. Repeated violations can result in fines of $100 to $200.
The full ban will go into effect for everyone, commercial and residential, in March 2026.

Pretty sure this is racist against Mexicans

It is really not that bad. Im seeing more and more electrical lawn mowers and leaf blowers and the insane noise pollution is getting better. Just relax a bit.

If that's what I have, I am not going buy an electric one.. If I lived there.. frick them.
Is it because of the noise?
I remember at LSU, I forgot what building I was in, but I was in class and they were mowing right there.. By the glass in the class room. When the lawn mower got close it got really loud and the instructor had to stop lecturing and then right behind it the dude came with the blower and the instructor was about to blow a gasket. It took all of 2 mins of class. People get upset over that shite.

Well, we'll see what the Royal Mexican Bagpipe Society has to say about this!

Raking/blowing leaves is a social construct that is scientifically unnecessary.

Kind of agree.
How in the world are they suppose to retool overnight in grass cutting season. These dudes run legitimate crews.
These people making the rules are deplorable.

Good. MFer next to me hires people for yardwork that get paid by the hr. Almost every other Saturday from 10 until 4 they run a blower continuously in the backyard.
Not enjoyable.
Not enjoyable.

Banning takes away the option. Let me decide if I want gas or electric. Same with cars, appliances and anything else.

This won't go like they think it will.

Good luck with that. L.A. county banned using gas blowers decades ago. Didn’t do shite. Now CA has banned the sale of them. You can have as many laws as you want but if you don’t enforce them they are useless.

Elizabeth Warren is a gas blower.

The residential neighborhoods are gonna get super pissed when the lawn care folks don’t come anymore because it’s logistically impossible to mow as many yards in the day that they do and manage keeping batteries charged for blower.
I have a dewalt one for my house and i love it. It is super powerful and easy to carry around but is it something that i could used to blow off 4-5 patios and drive ways? Helllll no.

I've never understood the obsession with raking and blowing leaves.

I don't know if its a sound I am used to or what, but it doesn't bother me. I just don't see it as a huge inconvenience.

quote:Aside from the fact the electric units have an intended 3-4 yr life cycle and the battery degradation typically begins in yr 2 with intended life of 3 seasons before they need to be replaced. I know battery recycling and reclamation with reduced carbon offset has come a long way, but it is still not a clean process. Movement to electric as it has become a better option will happen. Forced movement by the government to a solution that does not work for everyone is bad.

The neighbor's yard crew used a leaf blower worn like a backpack. They were running it with a muffler that had a hole in it. Every Friday morning at 7:00. That poor Mexican had to wear ear protection. I recorded it and used a sound meter to show how loud it was and showed it to my neighbor, who was always gone to work when the yard crew was there. He talked to them and said they needed to get a muffler on that blower and he asked me to let him know if they fixed it or not. They didn't and he let them go. Yard crews are everywhere here and easy to get another.
I use an 80v mower and 40v trimmer and blower. My lot size is 15,000 sq ft and I have 11 mature oak trees. The only gas-powered tool I have left is a pressure-washer.
That said, commercial crews need to use gas. It's not economically feasible to keep batteries and keep them charged and use for an all-day yard crew. The law in MA is completely blind to that.
