Nissan to permanently stop Titan truck production after 2024 model year

The Titan was one of the only full sized truck built in the American deep south. This leaves only the full sized GM SUVs and the Toyota Tundra as the remaining full sized body on frame trucks still made in the southern US. And that is only if you consider Texas as the southern US.
The Titan was assembled in Canton, Mississippi outside of Jackson. The plant will convert to making electric vehicles after next year. While Nissan insists that it will not cut workers at the factory; Americans really haven't latched onto EV's as much as expected.
The first generation Titan:
The second and final generation Titan:
The associated Nissan NV van was cancelled years ago; and the Infiniti QX/Nissan Armada is no longer built on the same chassis. The diesel model Titan was also canceled in 2019. So the writing was on the wall for the Titan for some time.

The Nissan Titan will meet the end of the road in the summer of 2024. Nissan confirmed over the weekend that production of its full-size pickup truck ends next year as the brand transitions to electric vehicles.
“Production of the Nissan Titan is scheduled to end summer 2024 at our Canton plant in Mississippi," Nissan VP of communications Brian Brockman said in a statement. Under Nissan’s Ambition 2030 vision of an electrified future, we are accelerating the process of transforming the Canton plant with the latest in EV manufacturing technology. This will support production of two all-new, all-electric vehicles. There will be no workforce reductions due to this action."
One of those electric vehicles will be a Nissan, the other an Infiniti, based on a last year's product tease.
Nissan has been trimming the Titan lineup since it was last refreshed for 2020. The regular cab was dropped, then the diesel V-8, then the Titan left the Canadian market.

Maybe they can go back to making a true compact pickup truck that gets over 30mpg

I always liked the titan XD diesel version but unfortunately I heard too many horror stories.

It is still a solid truck with a traditional V8 engine.
But it's a gas guzzler. It's not really class leading in any way, but it's also not a bad vehicle. And while people were paying over sticker last year for Silverados or F-150s, the Titan was quietly being sold at or slightly below MSRP.
I'm surprised it wasn't more popular in Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi. Nissan employed a lot of people in the south to build those Titans.

Where the F is all of this supposed demand for electric vehicles? I’m up in MA., and I see neither the demand, nor the $$$ for them???
What am I missing here?

I’d ask them to stop building Altimas but that’s a case of a-hole drivers flocking to a cheap brand rather than bad cars.

They sold tons of those little Nissan compact trucks they used to make. But thank your friendly neighborhood government bureaucrat and their safety guidelines for that.

Why didn't you buy a second gen? They only sold 15,000 of them last year.
To put that into perspective....General Motors sold 755,000 trucks in that same period in the US (not counting exports). Ford sold 650,000 trucks. Even Ram sold 470,000 trucks in that 12 month time frame and Toyota sold almost 100,000 Tundras.

They looked nice but literally everyone I know who purchased a Titan second green had nightmares. Electrical issues and transmissions were a common theme

The government killed the compact pickup? I just figured Americans got too fat and jaded to drive a small truck. I still have my 98 Frontier. They have their place and with today's fuel mpg standards set by the idiots in government, maybe the compact pickup could make a comeback?

Nissan’s small pickups in the 90s were such great looking trucks. Wish you could still get these.

It is unbelievable how far manufactures are going to force us into EVs that an overwhelming majority of people don’t want, or aren’t suited for. How the hell are anyone in cities with public or garage parking going to charge these things?

I own a 2010. It’s a great truck, but does drink gas.
