A decades-long treasure hunt for a golden owl statuette in France finally came to an end after 31 years on Thursday.
The treasure—a replica of the original golden owl statuette, which is made of gold, silver and diamonds—was buried somewhere in France back in 1993 by Régis Hauser, the author of the treasure hunt book On The Trail Of The Golden Owl. Written under the pseudonym Max Valentin, the book contains 11 riddles that solved the mystery of the treasure's location.
The finder of the buried replica will be awarded with the original statuette, which is estimated to be worth around €150,000 (around $165,000), according to a documentary on the treasure hunt by French broadcaster Canal+.

That's honestly pretty cool. I remember hearing about this over the years, so it's cool that a) this was done by the original guy that created it, and b) that it was finally solved.
IIRC there was a thread on here about one of the riddles being solved or something like that (but may be misremembering).
ETA: Looks like it was posted. Thread from three days ago: LINK
(but no responses)

They had something similar in America that ran for years and was supposedly found around 2020.
When I was a teen and visiting my grandparents on the Tx/la line, while grandma was at church on a Sunday night with her sister, grandad and I got a carful of yankee visitors.
They were supposedly looking for a golden statue and following clues published in a book. They wanted to search the woods and we ran them off.(a couple of 12ga shotguns in the hands of country folks tends to do that).
When aunt turned into the driveway shortly after sundown her headlights showed they had returned and were sneaking up on the house. Ran them off again and warned them not to come back if they had anyone who cared about them. Then we called the sheriff’s office and they caught them just across the state line. The story was consistent so they warned them as strongly as we did ( grandma was the sheriffs Sunday school teacher so when the sherrifs deputies told them they would never be seen again they really left).
Saw a news article around 2020 that claimed someone found it finally and chose to remain anonymous. Think it’s This (Wikipedia) one.
Since it was found in the Rockies those “searchers” were waaaayyy off.
