GET OFF YOUR ASSES AND GO VOTE NO ON THIS. June 27.

East Baton Rouge Parish voters will decide this month whether to renew a 10-year property tax for the parish’s Council on Aging that would fund services like meals and transportation for seniors.
On the June 27 ballot, the East Baton Rouge Council on Aging’s proposed measure is for a 10-year renewal of its existing property tax at a reduced millage rate of 2 mills.
A majority of voters approved this property tax for 2.25 mills in 2016. For the last two years, the millage has collected 2 mills after it was rolled back following a tax assessment year showing rising property values. Previously, it collected a rate of 2.13 mills, which was rolled back during the COVID pandemic.

Stealing from old people’s estates and doing for profit meals for youthful offenders adds to the community?

No tax should ever pass in EBR.
It does because the vote is not limited to property owners.

But we just voted a few days ago, right?
Why would we need to be voting again this soon to the last election???

I don't think she should use the word "outweigh"

Surely it can be cleaned up some, but they are not terrible with their 16mil budget... BREC gets a 116 million and it is not ran properly, I bet BREC wastes more than the COAs whole budget

You make no mention of what services the council on aging provides currently for this millage…..I would think the voters need to know this.

I’ll vote. I early vote all the time. I’m just being sarcastic because of the way this vote for taxes fell out a few weeks after a major election coincidentally.

BREC just got overhauled from the top down. I'm willing to give the new director and board of supervisors some time to try and straighten it out.
Council on Aging is a grand money laundering scheme.

It does because the vote is not limited to property owners.

You miss the point.
If the vote was limited to property owners (you know...the people that actually pay the fricking tax), all the busses and GOTV in the world would be meaningless.

The supporters of the tax have a vested interest in it passing, and you have a vested interest in it not passing. You may be surprised to learn that every vote counts as one
If the vote was limited to property owners
quit whining and go vote

My In-laws started receiving meals once. They never requested them. Somedays it was just a gallon of milk. The next day it could be 6 premade meals. Then nothing for two weeks. Then 2 gallons of milk.
They called to get more information and ask if this was how it worked and why it was so haphazard. They never received another meal.
