Read the several books by Theroux that start with him as a young man working (?peace corps) in Africa and then coming back decades later trying to find how things he had built had been mindlessly abandoned.

Funny you don't mention how China is largely due to them developing so well.
"China has financed and built mamy major infrastructure projects in Botswana across the energy, technology, transport, and water sectors. These developments form part of a broader economic partnership that has deepened since Botswana formally joined the Belt and Road Initiative.Major Chinese-built infrastructure projects in Botswana include:Morupule B Power Station: Built by the China National Electric Engineering Corporation (CNEEC), this massive coal-fired power station provides the bulk of Botswana's domestic power generation, helping transform the nation into a regional electricity exporter.Digital Delta Data Center: Located in the Botswana Innovation Hub in Gaborone, this Tier III certified data center was delivered by China Jiangxi International Economic and Technical Cooperation (CJIC) to significantly upgrade the country's ICT sector.Gaborone City Intersections: Chinese firms constructed three major grade-separated intersections (flyovers) in the capital city to help ease traffic flow and improve pedestrian safety.Water Supply Projects: Chinese contractors have been heavily involved in upgrading water infrastructure across the country, including major works around Mahalapye to help alleviate severe regional water shortages.Airport and Housing Projects: Chinese companies have been utilized in several high-visibility projects across Gaborone, such as the expansion of the Sir Seretse Khama International Airport and large-scale housing developments."

I'm going to go out on a limb and say they aren't Communist.

Having been to Botswana on a medical mission for HIV treatments, I can assure you that photo is either AI or some weird angle lol I have no doubt they have made economic progress since their AIDS epidemic is under control but that looks questionable

Addis Ababa would be a more "colonial" city, and this continued after the occupation. Subsequent master plans were designed by French and British consultants from the 1940s onwards

Lagos was the capital of Nigeria until 1991. The historical concentration of British colonial infrastructure established it as the country's center of gravity.

Does anything "good" come out of Africa?

I’ve been to Lagos. It’s a nightmare shithole supported by oil money. They have buildings and roads but no one follows traffic laws, theft and other crime is a way of life, and nothing is maintained. Rolling brown outs are routine.

African infrastructure is growing largely because of foreign investment/technology.
Which is the equivalent of rent to own furniture because the Chinese are issuing predatory loans those nations have zero chance of ever repaying.

They have zero chance of repaying regardless

Zimbabwe's next door neighbor Botswana 2026. Democratic form of government, stable economy, never had a war or internal strife. Things are rarely as cut and dried as memes would lead you to believe.
What’s funny is the specific example you cite, Botswana, is for all intents and purposes a welfare client of Communist China.
Citing Botswana as a success story is akin to claiming a single mom in Memphis with 7 kids by 5 different baby-daddies and living in government projects and receiving government benefits is “successful.”

Which is the entire point for the Chinese so they can then seize the domestic assets that were used as collateral like mines and ports.
They “loan” the money.
The nation has to use Chinese firms for construction so they get the money right back.
The nation can’t pay and loses their assets and autonomy.
It’s brilliant for the CHICOMS and horrible for the locals because the infrastructure they purchase isn’t maintained and ends up providing little if any benefit to the citizens while they’ve sold off the means to leverage their nation into greater prosperity in the future.

I listened to a podcast once on why Africa is such a shithole.
This isn’t the main reason. Just one of many:
Apparently it doesn’t have any real navigable rivers. Sure, it has lots of rivers, but the massive drops in elevation throughout the continent cause them all to have waterfalls and make them unusable for long distances by boat.
Additionally, its coast is rocky and has very few places to bring in ships. (North coast and South Africa)
These two factors led to cultures within the continent never really traveling and trading with their neighbors. And that’s how cultures grow wealth and knowledge. Basically retarded their growth throughout the era where Europe and Asia were building empires.
