"On a television" HYEW HYEW HYEW....

But seriously, will be watching tv at our tailgates this season. What's the best way to do so? I don't feel like dealing with a satellite dish and that subscription. I've heard antennas are alright but no ESPN; true? If wifi is strong enough I'd prefer to stream via roku, firestick, etc.

So just looking for advice from the veterans/experts.

Cheers

Set up next to a tailgate with TV already.

It would help if you shared who your cable provider is, if you have one.

Hot spotting will work until a big game happens and start lagging.

I got a lighting to HDMI adapter and will try to stream from my phone this week. Have AT&T unlimited cell so I cant make it a hotspot. PSvue app wont support this method but Sling app will. YouTube app works so I assume YouTube TV might work as well.

I tested the ESPN app stream last week and had success. Even watched a game while in the stadium. State supposedly had cell companies improve coverage this year and I think it might have worked. Or so many people passed out from the heat that they were not using their phones.

Not a vet/expert but thought I'd share just the same.
ETA: I realize you are probably talking about while your at LSU and results may vary

The ESPN app will no longer broadcast through the HDMI adapter. Going to try and bring a Roku to this weeks tailgate to see if that'll resolve our issue. Bit PITA that it wouldn't stream the first game.

We typically watch the OTA games. If there is a really big game on a streamed network, we have a Roku and stream via a phone hotspot.

(1) TCL ROKU TV $130
- Download the ESPN App, NFL Network App, FOX Sports App, link to your current subscription

(2) Portable Electric Generator $150 (Lasts up to 6 hours and is the size of a male shoe - totally silent)

(3) Wifi Hotspot

(4) HD Antenna $18
- This screws right into the TV and has impeccable signal. Gets all cable channels, no problem.

We've done this all season long and it's been incredible.

You will need a satellite. Streaming for a cellphone and/or hotspot will be fine until more people start coming on campus and taking up all the bandwidth. For a 7pm kickoff game, this is usually around 2pm from my experience.

You can also get the VHF receiver/converter things and pick up local TV and get the ABC, Fox and CBS games

From your thread title, I thought you meant watching TV while driving down the highway, riding someone's bumper.

I would have discouraged it.

I get it, but just know that nothing is going to give you as good of a solution as this. If there was something, no one would use satellites for tailgates.

I have the Att TV app. It cost me NO data to stream all day long. The only time I've ever had a problem streaming was the 'Bama game last year because of the extra people on campus. The closer to the stadium the harder it will be to stream.

Get a HDMI adapter for the phone and plug into TV.

I also bring a second/18-inch TV and connect to rabbit ears for OTA channels.

Good Luck

We use one of those flappy antennas you can get from wall-mart, allows us to watch CBS and ABC games, usually pretty shitfaced by 2:30-3 so i stop caring whats on TV but ive always wanted to be able to stream Watch ESPN. LSU needs to boost their wifi and make it free! wouldnt that be nice
