What would things be like if there was no US and each state was a country?

You just now figuring out that even our poorest are richer than most of the world?
Nah, doing the opposite actually. I've always known "poor" by the standards of a lot of the clueless uninformed American public is relatively well off compared to even other 1st world countries around the world.
If relatively "poor" states like Alabama and Louisiana have economies that on par with or even exceed on a per capita basis the economies of countries like Sweden that are considered social democratic utopias by the elites in our country then either countries like Sweden aren't the utopian paradises our elites claim it is or Alabama and Louisiana aren't the 3rd world sh##holes these same people claim they are.
It's either one or the other. Can't have it both ways

We see you Mississippi - trying to coax West Virginia into the conference.
*They would still edge you cats out on a per capita basis

How the hell is Mississippi on this list and North Carolina isn't?
Probably because North Carolina isn't an SEC state....
...but since you're curious here are North Carolina's numbers:
North Carolina - 788.00 B
NC by itself would rank as the 22nd largest economy in the world behind #21 Taiwan and ahead of #23 Belgium

If Alabama had the same oil and gas resources and refining capacity that Louisiana has Alabama's GDP would be closer to $400 B.
Well imagine if La had a tourist friendly coast and gulf waters.

Interesting to note that one of the countries that many "democratic socialists" often point to as the crown jewel and model economy the U.S. should pattern its economy after...Sweden...has a GDP exactly the same size as the economies of Alabama and Louisiana combined.
Of course, people point to Sweden because they manages to provide health care, shorter work weeks, affordable housing etc for regular middle class folks with that GDP while much of the capital generated by Alabama's GDP ends up in the hands of investors in New York as a 1/4 of Alabama remains like the third world.

Alabama’s GDP is $59,131 per resident. No clue if that’s good or not.
Relative to the rest of the US no. But it's still higher compared to a large number of EU countries including Spain and just under Italy's

I am just going to assume that you have never actually been to a third world country before.

Makes you wonder where they'd stack up without all the O&G. I'm surprised their GDP's are so close.
Which state has a major port?
There’s your answer. If anything Louisiana is underachieving.

It’s funny to me because personally I love these 3 states and would certainly reside in any of them except they don’t offer the opportunities.
The lack of rat race in each state is so amazing.

Even crazier is that just the 5 states alone that make up what was traditionally referred to as the "Deep South" (Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, and South Carolina) together make up the 12th largest economy in the world.
When you add in the other 3 original SEC states (Florida, Kentucky, and Tennessee) to those 5 "Deep South" states you have what makes up the 4th largest economy in the world.
Texas, Florida, and Georgia combined make up the 3rd largest economy in the world
Which is why I laugh when people spout the propaganda that the South couldn't make it on their own.

Louisiana would be much better off if we didn't share oil revenue the way it is shared and it was more like landlocked states do oil revenue. Louisiana gets less than the other states and has a frickING cap. It's bullshite.
Keep the resources in the state and maybe it would be less shitty.

I have always been curious about these on a per capita basis.

Singapore is pretty impressive for it’s size.

If we sent LA politicians to run Sweden they'd be a shithole in under a decade
