The officer who ticketed him said that he would be offered driving school. I wish he could enroll and complete that before his court date to show he is remorseful and serious abt being a better driver. I wonder if he can do that ahead of time? probs not, but I am going to look into that, the worst they can say is no I guess.

I would very much like this not to be reported to our insurance though.

The $190 'court costs' will be in addition to a MUCH stiffer speeding fine !

Looks like someone is not driving for awhile.

The only way they drive is with a parent in the car.

The ultimate punishment just drive me around all day after school to
Bingo, doctors appointments, pick up some hookers & blow. Just the normal everyday stuff in an older persons life in Baton Roougez.

Then they will cut some yards, rake some leaves, or program some computers for extra cash to pay this off.

He gets to pay the fine, and he gets to pay for the increase in his insurance with a "super-speeder" citation on his record. If he can't afford it then he doesn't drive.

70 in a 55 I could understand, but 30 MPH over is a tad bit excessive. He was lucky it was lowered to "only" 25 MPH over the limit.

I’d just take the car away for 6 months or however long. Not sure treating them like they got caught selling drugs is necessary if they’re generally a good kid.

possible take him to a place that deals with Traumatic Brain Injuries so he can see what could happen as a result of crashing at high speeds.

And/or watch some kind of documentary and then write a 3 page paper on the dangers and potential outcomes

yeah, he was vv fortunate that the officer knew us and gave him a break.

If he were charged with reckless driving and having other kids in the car while still having a Restricted DL, he could have had his DL revoked until he is 21. (that is what the officer said).

I am not sure abt being arrested on the spot at his age for reckless driving, but I'd think that was a possibility as well.

In any case, he was vv lucky in a lot of ways.

Those things don’t seem like punishments to me. They seem like things you should already be doing. Spending more time in common areas of the house is a punishment?

If he hasn't been paying his car insurance, he should now and should have to earn the money to pay the rise in that insurance that his stupidity will cause.

Wonder how mad the judge would be if you made him go plead guilty in person

All depends on the situation and the kid. Both my kids got tickets early on for 20ish over the speed limit. Their consequence was to pay the ticket themselves. I got my first ticket going around 20 over about 3 months after I got my license at 15. Had around 10-12 since then in 30 years of driving.

Everyone they rode with growing up sped, except for their mother. Me, my parents and my wife's dad. They got it honest, and no amount of me telling them don't speed was going to stop them. They had also been driving since they were 13 though (18 and 20 now). So by the time they got their license, they had plenty of driving experience. Never worried about either of them and still don't. They both slowed down some after their tickets.

My youngest hit 2 parked cars in the 1st 90 days of having a drivers license. The worst punishment I could give her is to make her drive around with her dinged up car.

That’s cheap. My 80 in a 55 in downtown Atlanta cost me a cool $303 back in the day. Hell, my 70 in a 55 2 years ago cost me $160.
