Just say "crush and run" or "crushed 57". Although since you have a solid base, this in MHO is a waste. #57 will do what you need.

A cheaper alternative is recycled concrete. In essence it is just crushed concrete. Spreads good, cheap, and would replace the crush and run. The only issue is the color differs from limestone.

try construction aggregates in port allen

are you going to spread this yourself? if not, then find someone who will deliver, spread and compact. they'll get a cheaper price than you will

610 limestone will compact. That's what you need to fill the holes. The 57 stone is larger stone that will move and slide as you drive across it. It's ok as a 2" covering/dust control on top of the 610 stone, but 57 is not going to compact at all.

Thanks everyone for the insight.
I'll check on pricing for a turn key job if I go crushed concert. Otherwise I guess it'll be limestone and a bionic grader. How bad can I screw it up, right?

I just put down crushed asphalt over 200 yds of the white crushed rock you mentioned.

If i remember correctly it was $100 for a little over 6yds of material. That covered about 100ft long 9ft wide, roughly 4" deep.
It was a lot of work with the box blade but works well so far. I wish i had one of those heavy vibrating rollers to pack it. The grade could be better in spots but it will be virtually no dust in the summer compared to that white rock

frick 57! It will rut for a long time. Go with 610 as others have suggested and rent a vibratory roller that you can ride on and has a water tank. Roll it wet for a while and once it feels fairly packed, turn the vibrator on and do it some more. Roll all the way to the ends, don't stop in the middle or the vibration will make little divots in your driveway.

Leave a pile on the side for tea spooning fill for voids or holes and then roll those in too.

Any decent driver should be able to spread stone for you so there's minimal work on your part. (Tailgate of dump truck should have chains for this)

This is why the OB is the best board on the site! I was needing this same information. My driveway needs new rock plus I am putting it under my shop lean too and the drive going to it.

Good advise. Another point to make is to prep the existing holes prior to laying the stone, or the holes will return. Dig out existing and put larger stone down to fill the void. These soft spots need to be stabilized to prevent the top layer of stone from sinking. Good luck.

Oh, and renting a roller is worth the time and the money.

or patch your holes as listed above and then cover with rock. I have about 1/2 mi of driveway and that's what I have been doing for about 20 years. use limestone on the base and gravel on the top works well. Limestone is just too expensive IMO to use as your sole driveway material.

I keep a pile of limestone and gravel at the house and just use the tractor to spread as needed. It works well and is fairly low maintenance, grade about every 2 months or so and I'm done.

I remember Dad got some stuff that was sort of beige in color...near off-white yellowish. It had a powder in it along with some aggregate. Once the put it down and spread it..Dad hit it with water....let it set up..and man that stuff packed HARD! Still forms the center of the horseshoe driveway at Mom's place. I don't know if it was crush/run or not..but it packed well.

Sounds like crushed granite.
