Definitive Video on Identity and Qualifications of Toronto Crash Pilots
Posted on 2/20/25 at 8:20 pm
Posted on 2/20/25 at 8:20 pm
The male Captain, James Henneman, was a Simulator Instructor for EndeavorAir. Unclear if he were also a Flight Instructor. Washed out on his attempt to move up from regional to Delta.
As reported, the female First Officer was Kendal Swanson, 26. She was flying the aircraft. She didn't have enough time yet to be type rated in that type of jet.
The YouTube creator cautions to not cast blame yet on one or both of the pilots. Clear that Delta is going to have a hard time supporting its CEO's declaration that both pilots were experienced.
If you want answers, worth watching the 13:26 video:
UPDATE: In the comments down thread, "General" cast doubts on some things asserted in this video. Give and take of PoliBoard at its finest!

Still confusing as to whether or not Swanson had been flying CRJs (type jet in the crash) for 6 weeks or as long as a year.

I have the best feeling about my flight next Wednesday operated by Endeavor Air. Can't wait!

Bright side: you might walk away with $30k.

The thought of a 26 year old female piloting the plane I am on is terrifying.

So.. a woman driver flipped a plane?
Sounds about right.

Has it been determined what caused the crash?
Bad piloting?
Icy runway?
Mechanical failure?

The crux of the video was that there are still too many question marks to know the exact cause. Gotta let the investigation play out.

DEI brings all standards down. This is what people need to understand. It's not even necessarily about whether a specific pilot was DEI, it's that the entire process makes DEI a part of the mission to begin with. Whether that be the design/engineers, the manufacturers, the ATCs, the mechanics, and the pilots.
It's also not something you necessarily look at in a case by case basis, but should be observed in the aggregate for it's cumulative effect.

That accident was 100% pilot error.

Yes. Pilot error. It's just not yet official.

Delta information about the pilots
Plenty of wrong information in the video. No pilot is operating an aircraft for a 121 air carrier without being type rated. Having an R-ATP just means she hasn’t met the requirements for the full ATP and therefore can’t upgrade to Captain. You need 1000 hours of 121 time to upgrade anyway. She finished training last April according to Delta so she’s been on the line for around 10 months. She’s probably been on reserve and hasn’t flown enough to have the restriction removed or hasn’t taken the time to go to the FSDO to have it removed.
The captains name sounds familiar so I’m pretty sure I had him in training when I was there. There’s conflicting information about his time at Delta. The training at Delta isn’t any more difficult than it is at Endeavor. They’re both under AQP which is train to proficiency.
The guy in the video needs to stick to flying his 210. You don’t slip swept wing jets in a crosswind.

The landing gear on one side shouldn't have collapsed, even on a "hard" touchdown. It's supposedly the first time that's happened on a CRJ. With zero altitude and little airspeed, this non-pilot wonders if having Chuck Yeagar in the cockpit would have made any difference.
DEI sucks and all, no question, but we also just had two Growler jockeys get fished out of the bay in San Diego. While really, really uncomfortable to experience, it wasn't like the crew forgot to turn on de-icing equipment or some other supremely negligent act (apparently.)

Exactly.
The only questions are which one, or both?

Thanks, General.
Really helpful. Here's the information Delta released yesterday that you linked:

Considering the Delta CEO said they were experienced pilots I don't exactly believe anything they say about this.

I understand the litigation aspects and the desire to protect the careers of the two pilots, but Delta lost the faith of many people by not immediately addressing/attempting to eliminate the possibility that DEI COULD have been a factor.
Maybe the professional pilots here know: could Delta have immediately released the names of the two pilots or did union agreements prohibit such a release?
