I couldn’t find that this topic had been brought up yet, but this got me to thinking. Ok, assuming Bill Cassidy is running for Senate in 2026 & the Democrats in Louisiana have no one in the bullpen to run I think this would be at least a shot of the most likely candidates.

What if Cassidy continues to cuck it up. Doing things like actively campaigning against Trump in 2024 & just constantly bringing up January 6th thereby turning off conservative voters. Is there any way Edwards has a shot to beat Cassidy if these were the 2 candidates?

I’d bet Jeff Landry or Scalise or Mike Johnson jump in if those are the two other candidates leading up to 2026

Could we voluntarily give up the seat and leave it open?

I would not vote in that race. Similar to Edwards vs Duke years ago.

I don't think Cassidy will run for a third term.

He's shite in his mess kit here. And yes, I know people have short memories, but he's pretty much given a big middle finger to the people of this state in selling out. And he knows it.

He'll "retire" to a cushy consulting/lobbying gig w/ big pharma/healthcare. After he's done feathering his nest, of course.

First off, frick both of them. However, if those two are our only choices, I’m afraid I’d have to vote for Cassidy. I can not, in good faith, run my mouth for years digging republicans for voting for Edwards just because he is against abortion while an actual conservative (also against abortion) was an option then turn around and vote for Edwards for senate while an actual Republican is also an option, just because the Republican was against Trump, a former president.

I’m sorry, but if those are our only two choices, I’m voting for Cassidy.

I wonder if Scalise doesn’t have a shot to be House Speaker by then. If not, then Majority House leader. Not sure he’d take the shot at primarying Cassidy then.

Landry, I could definitely see him trying to primary Cassidy if he’s not Governor.

Mike Johnson, while a hard conservative, I don’t know if he has the temperament or would have the campaign account to take on what would be an extremely well funded Cassidy by that point. Yes, Cassidy has made hard conservatives mad, but a sitting US Senator, who is a Republican in a Republican leaning state, is going to draw a ton of cash.

We have jungle primaries. Obvi JBE would make the runoff-the issue is how far does Cassidy split the Republican vote?

JBE v Cassidy is a no-win proposition.

I hate JBE way more than I despise Cassidy.
