If there was a limited nuclear strike on America, what would happen?

Let's say, a couple of strikes on east coast port cities.

There is no such thing as a limited nuclear strike. If the balloon goes up, they all go up.
Here is what would happen (assuming Biden and the Insurgents in DC didn't want us to be nuked):
- B52's, B2's etc would scramble, along with airborne command and control.
- Messages are transmitted to silos and submarines.
- Once the tracking is confirmed, there's a decision made: launch or not and if so, how much. I don't see how you can assume a "limited" strike because of the immense damage from just one nuke, which could affect your ability to respond proportionally, so it seems likely that the decision is made to obliterate the entire nation that is the origin of the strike coming our way, regardless of the size of that strike.
- Launch authority given, and a large number of strikes take place, with reserve left in place in case other nations join in, assuming our command and control is left intact.
- Everything electronic will fail. Millions of Americans will be vaporized. Millions more will die within a few days. Much of the nation is a wasteland for the foreseeable future.
- Congress, and the pieces of garbage like Lindsey Graham, will be in a bunker sipping tea, without a care in the world that their malfeasance led to an inferno throughout our nation and probably billions of dead people around the world.
- Zuckerberg and the other elites will also be in bunkers.
- We will all pay the price for the incompetence and malice of the elites.
- After the dust settles, billions more will die a slow death from radiation or starvation, or other maladies.
There is no such thing as "tactical nukes" or "limited nuclear war", IMO. The only exception would be a dirty bomb or suitcase nuke - even that may prompt a chain reaction of complete destruction.

If it was a non-state actor we'd occupy a few nations for a few decades

Only a suicidal fool would do a “limited strike” on an enemy with superior power. That would be like slapping a grizzly on the snout. The only way there would be a limited strike is if the attacker could remain anonymous, and a suspect Nation could claim plausible deniability, like using a suitcase nuke. The real threat of nuclear only exists in the minds of delusional madmen who hold fanatical Religious beliefs. Think the “Martyrdom “ narrative. There is only one Religion that holds such a narrative and whose theology contains a commitment to destroy another Religion/People(Race). Muslim v Jew. If Christianity sides with the Jews, complicit Christians are fair game. Political Ideology such as Constitutional Principle v Marxism wouldn’t be a sufficient cause for war, as Marxism conquers from within. Kruschev’s “ we’ll take you without firing a shot” point holds true. But even it that likelihood was abandoned for some implausible reason, a single EMP would cause depopulation minus structural and natural damage. Far preferable to messy nukes. IMO, read the Bible to know what “happens “. If we exist in a Spiritual Universe, our Creator will save us. After we learn THE most important lesson. Such being our flawed nature and inability to wield massive power. Lesson scenario coming soon and starting in the ME most likely.

If it happened, all the focus on issues like LGBTQ+, racism, wokism, toxic masculinity, Jan 6th, etc. would be dropped like it’s hot(or like a rock). The weak people of this country will do an about face and pray that an army of toxic males from ‘Merica will come out of the woodwork to save and preserve the opportunity to continue their lifestyle.
