BMI is imperfect if you're looking at one person because it doesn't take into account muscle mass. But it is very effective as a common standard when looking at very large populations because it's easy to obtain and consistent.
I'm a pretty muscular guy myself, when I was in the Navy every 6 months I had to get taped because according to the BMI chart I was overweight - though not obese.

BMI is ridiculous. They have me as “healthy” but approaching overweight. I play tennis 5 days a week and muscle weighs more than fat.

Well, he isn’t a football player. I go to the gym every day and I’m considered overweight. I’m 6’ 195 of straight muscle. That’s different. He’s fricking obese. I’m sorry you are fat. Get your shite together.
