Yeah….

But is it fast.

Chili’s can usually be timed with a sundial instead of a stopwatch.

Can I eat that barreling down the interstate doing 85, posting on TD and cursing out people doing only 80 in the left lane?

Better, but unless Chili's starts a drive thru McDonald's will still have a niche.

When the stupid fricking kid is whining for mcnuggets after practice, you go get the mcnuggets. Not go sit at Chili's for a hamburger.

really thought terrible service, bad food, and escalating prices would have destroyed McDonald's by now.

And the shake machine not working.

Chili's is dead here. The one on Pinhook has at most 6 cars in the parking lot at any time. The other one does better but not great.

pinhook road in lafayette and college drive in baton rouge were once top 20 in revenue chilis franchises in the country

my buddy’s sister was a waitress and bartender at chilis on college drive in the 80s and she was making over $70k in 1980s money while at LSU with over 1/3 of it cash

that pinhook rd chilis is almost 40 years old

McDonalds is too big to fail.

If price is what starts to hurt them they have the ability to lower prices and "starve out" any fast casual restaurants.

I mean we have mobile apps for ordering and curbside pickup. Is fast food really that much more convenient for the price?

When our kids were little, we'd go to Chili's maybe once per week.
We were given a fat stack of kids eat free coupons, and it was cheap and convenient.

There isn't a Chili's convenient to us anymore, that place is now a First Watch. In other words, they swapped a place we could treat a family of 5 to dinner for under $50 for a breakfast joint that costs over $100 for a family of 5...

If I am on a road trip, I am far more likely to just stop at a gas station or travel center with decent food than to make an extra stop for fast food.

So it's a combination of things.
They aren't fast any more, so many are slow as frick.
They aren't cheap any more, you can eat at at sit down restaurant for comparable amount.
Gas stations have stepped up their game.
and so on

Panera is tasteless to me. I've never had anything I've liked from there.

Every time I’m tempted to stop and get a bite to eat on my way to or from work, I tighten my belt and go home and find something. Or I’ll stop at the grocery store and buy something cheaper.

You can’t beat it Fries aren’t that good though

I’d rather pay a little more for a place that has decent fries. It’s but really a deal if the fries suck.

Without a true drive thru I don’t see them ending McDonalds. At least around us They did a good job during covid of quickly converting to a Togo place (especially considering how difficult it was to keep and hire employees), but that was using their app to order and having employees stationed outside to greet customer and then go get their specific order for them.
