frick me did Knapp really bit DI 270?? I was flipping through watching lsu Stanford finish up and assumed that was a 3 wood. Hitting a fricking iron 270. Must be nice

Rolled out to 270s though. Yeh I didn’t think that was an iron. Assumed 3 wood

But for every cold day with wind against there is a warm day with wind at your back…. For every uphill shot there is a downhill shot… It evens out, that’s how averages work. Over a course of a year those conditions even out You are saying you truly think Rory averages 297 carry with driver in basically zero wind on 75 degree day perfectly flat. I say absolutely no way

They play a hell of a lot of rounds in suboptimal conditions, especially the top tier players. Rory has no issue getting 320+ carry on a sunny warm day with no wind. But he’s playing probably a third to half his rounds in difficult weather, in the morning, tough winds, etc. He’s also trying to shape the ball as often as not rather than full on blast.

Think through the schedule those caliber guys play: Torrey, Pebble, Riviera, Bay Hill, TPC, Augusta, Canada, Scottish, the Open, etc. can all have tough years (and some like Torrey or Pebble are tough conditions almost every year). There are only two stretches that those top guys play that are guaranteed to be pretty warm and calm: the early summer with Quail, Memorial, and the US Open and then again in the playoffs.

Viktor hovland just had a 292 TOTAL drive to open his third round. Right in the middle of the fairway.

Safe to say his carry was 280ish.
