There are some laugh out loud moments in American Pie.

But it is a gross out sex comedy of a bygone era.

Superbad has some moments like that, but its much more of a heartfelt teen friendship movie

Michael Cera especially. His sort of quiet brand of humor in it is just perfect. He has so many toss away lines that crack me up just because of the way he delivers them.
I'm an old geezer who doesn't like Breakfast Club, but I do like Superbad. Michael Cera's character is a very relatable one for me because he just seems like a regular kid with the same problems we all had as teenagers. Kind of a teenage every man. Some of us may have figured out a little more about the opposite sex a couple of years earlier than his character, but we all went thru not feeling sure about how to deal with a lot of situations.

Jonah Hill's character is also relatable because we all had goofy friends that kept us laughing. Some of us need a guy like that that's a little more outgoing than we are. Who doesn't like, and need a friend like him to pick us up every so often.

McLovin is one of those characters that breaks new ground, and has to be added to the cavalcade of past classic comedy characters. Having him in the movie is a genius move by everyone involved. Him being the one to interact , and develop a relationship with the cops is one of the funniest parts of the movie.

When I saw the movie I thought a sequel that had McLovin becoming a member of the force could be really funny. A TV series about that character being on the police force with the other cops would probably be a hit too.

When Jonah hill is jerking off in the measuring cup in home ec class and drinks it and then the period blood pants fiasco.. I legit think I stopped breathing from laughter in the theater

The biggest problem with American Pie is that, as a movie, it's pretty shitty. Terrible acting, directing, etc.

the biggest problem is live streaming a naked women without her consent not those things you mentioned

Save for the cops, it’s extremely accurate to growing up in the cellphone/early internet era and before the smartphone.

I do remember one of my high school girlfriends (non-dating) getting breast reduction over the summer and when finding out saying “That’s like smacking God across the face” and my best friend responding “She had back problems dude. Besides she’s in the best shape of her life and they shaped her boobs to be perkier than ever.” I then said that I wanted to see them.

It's actually Not Another Teen Movie.

Not Another Teen Movie I’d say is a great parody, but it doesn’t stand on its own. You have to understand the references, almost all of which are very funny.

You do remind me that I need to add this to my movie collection though. Unquestionably the best of the ______ Movies.

Superbad is probably my GOAT - came out right after finishing high school and definitely a core memory

American Pie I can get being people's GOAT but it was a few years ahead of my time to really lock in with that age range

The period with Superbad and Hangover was great for comedies

Is there even anything to list for the 10s and 20s so far?

21/22 Jump Street is the only one coming to mind.

I still think they should do the Jump Street/MIB crossover. That just sounds like it has amazing potential.

21/22 Jump Street are the last of the great comedies.

As you said the Jump Street/MIB crossover sounds so fun.

Would be hilarious if Ice Cube has been an alien this entire time.

As much as I love NATM, it certainly won’t age as well as Superbad because NATM is heavily reliant that you have seen the movies it is parodying, and 20 years from now, very few will have seen them.

Superbad not only stands on its own, but is from the start shot as a period piece. Like Dazed and Confused, it’s going to hold up due to this. It brings you into the times very well and isn’t really dependent on any pop culture references outside of a side joke about Aladdin and the Coen Brothers.

That one goes to “The Death of Stalin”. Highly, highly recommend it if you haven’t seen it. Decently historically accurate, although they do a bit of a time crunch when it comes to Beria.

And that was 2017, a seven fricking year drought of great comedies.

dude, no way that is a "great comedy" in the same vein as the others listed in this thread. Death of Stalin is a great movie and definitely funny, but it's very niche. if you dont know anything or much about Soviet era Russia, Stalin, let alone Khruschev, Beria, Molotov, and Zhukov, then like 80% of the movie's humor will be lost on you.

literally anyone can sit down and laugh their arse off at the Jump Street movies, even without being familiar with the source material

I mean, maybe I should have clarified it for history buffs, but it’s the only one coming to mind. Maybe Jojo Rabbit, but Jojo really has everything going for it where it can be listed fairly as a drama over a comedy.
